We took advantage of January temperatures in the low fifties and planned a pleasant ride to Hayfield Family Restaurant in Gore, Virginia, following the best backroads we could find. Hayfield is well known for its wide selection of homemade pies. Warren, as usual, ordered one of his fancy choices—something with raisins—topped with a scoop of ice cream. We were pleasantly surprised to find that when we arrived, John P. was already there and had reserved a table for an unknown number of riders. It was the first time John had joined us, and we gave him a big welcome.
Even though it was around 2:00 p.m., some riders enjoyed a late lunch, and everyone enjoyed the pies. Afterward, the group decided to head home taking more backroads rather than the more direct highway route.
I had been experimenting with an app that highlights gravel roads, hoping we could avoid unpaved sections. Much to my dismay, my REVER route re-routed itself and avoided all the roads that I had questions about. Maybe they were unpaved? Who knows. I’m attaching a link to the Virginia unpaved roads map, which I think could be useful to all of us.
Here is the link to the "Gravel Roads" map. The green are diffinitely gravel, but some of the yellow I am pretty sure are paved. On this ride I picked some of the yellow that I was pretty sure were paved, to check them out, but my Gold Wing navigation avoid them

It was great to be able to take advantage of good weather, good pies, and good friends.
