October 1, 11:00 AM Lunch, Hilda's Diner, Eskridge, KS

Post by schoolmaster »

Since it's officially fall, it seems perfectly appropriate to schedule a ride into the Flint Hills for lunch. It's been quite awhile since we've been to Eskridge and I've heard lots of good things about Hilda's Diner. As of today, the weather looks perfect for a ride down two of the best roads in our area for riding, HWY's 99 and 4, so what better place to go for lunch than a town that's at the intersection of these two great riding roads.

I've scheduled this as a lunch, however Hilda gets up early so if you want to go a little earlier for breakfast that would work and I understand that Hilda cooks up a pretty tasty breakfast as well. You just might miss getting your picture taken since I'm going for lunch. But I guess if that's the case you could take a selfie and post it yourself!!

Here's the skinny on Hilda's:

RIDE REPORT October 1, Hilda's Diner, Eskridge, KS

Post by schoolmaster »

I wasn't certain what kind of attendance we'd have today in Eskridge due to several of our group attending the Rendezvous in Arkansas this week, but I was pleasantly surprised that 26 ROMEOS showed up either for a late breakfast or an early lunch. And it was worth the trip. Hilda put out a tasty breakfast and the double cheeseburger lunch special was more than a mouthful for those that tried to put that bad boy away!

As always, the roads to and from Eskridge provide really pleasant Flint Hills scenery and this time of year it is especially enticing. The only downer is that on the way home it might have felt a little more like summer than fall with temperatures reaching 87-ish. But looking at future predictions this week may be sort of the end of all that and we'll have some real fine fall riding weather just ahead. Fingers crossed!

And yes Chuck, those of us that rode down Hwy 4 did notice the American flag display along the road. Nicely done!! Plus, it was nice of you to join us for lunch today and we hope you'll bring Sam next time!

I hope Al's house sale closing went well and his move to his new digs tomorrow goes smoothly. I'll probably set up next week's ride so Al can get his underwear drawer all in order but hopefully he'll be back in the saddle soon providing you with his excellent leadership!! And now, a few photos from today's gathering...
