July 16, Lunch 11:00 AM. Wooden Spoke Restaurant, Baldwin, KS

Post by schoolmaster »

It looks like the temperatures for next week are a bit more reasonable for mid-July but there is also the threat of rain all week but it varies day to day. Just in case, I’m scheduling this week’s lunch ride in a centrally located spot for most of us so if the weather isn’t to your liking you could even join us on four wheels for lunch if you’re in the mood. Or if you want to ride, Baldwin City makes for a pleasant little jaunt.

I’m not sure we ever had lunch at the Spoke in it’s current location but Al and I checked it out a year or so ago and it looked like a good choice to try but until now it never quite made the rotation. I ate here several months ago and had a great lunch so let’s give it a whirl. They are open from 11 until 2 for lunch and I told them we’d be there at 11!
Hope to see you for lunch at the:

I apologize for the late posting of ride photos but life got in the way. But here they are. When I posted the ride last week the weather looked iffy, 60% chance of rain, but that disappeared and we had a beautiful morning for a ride. Although it heated up later in the day, it was a pleasant morning for a ride so if you didn't take the extra long way home it was a pretty good day for a ride.

And apparently a lot of you agreed, because when I pulled up to the Wooden Spoke about 10:45 there were about as many motorcycles already parked under the covered parking as a master planner could have possibly gotten under there!

And I think when the final count was in we had 39 ROMEOS show up for lunch, most on motorcycles.

I had told them to expect between 15 and 30 depending on the weather and I don't think they believed me because the had two tables pushed together for our group that would seat about 10. Although it took some time to get everyone served it gave us a good excuse to catch up on the developments of the week so all in all, it was a great day to be a ROMEO.

Al will be back on duty for next week's ride so we should be back to the normal quality leadership we have come to expect!
