South Central Lunch Ride: Wednesday, March 16, 12:30 PM

Post by roginoz »

The forecast for Wednesday is looking better all the time. I had initially planned (and posted) a ride to Potwin, but I found out that The Station has closed. So – let’s head a little farther north and a little farther west and revisit Durham.

We’ve eaten breakfast at the Main Street Café, so now we can see what lunch is like. The owner told me that the special on Wednesdays is bierocks. If they’re as good as the sausage we had for breakfast, I’m in. If you’re not a bierock person, I’m sure that you can find something among the other fare to fill you up.

The owner was a little concerned about being to serve everyone in a timely manner, and getting his local working folks fed and back on the job. He said that he’d be able to serve us better if we arrived at 12:30. It’ll give us a little more time to ride up the long way, if we want, and I think we need to stay mindful of the local folks that keep these places open so that we can enjoy them.

We had nineteen people and nineteen bikes at Durham, including one of my fellow Honda ST owners from Colorado. Mark was ferrying an ex-Joplin PD ST1100P cop bike home, and was glad he made the slight detour to have lunch with us. Thanks to all for making him feel welcome. The baked sausage was great, as was the pecan pie. We had a really good assortment of bikes, and it was a great day to ride. (A bit of wind, but it was a tailwind half of the way...)
