Many people have contacted me wondering about John Davis being in an accident. Apparently he was involved in an accident on HWY. 169 and according to Dave Robey there is an article in the Chanute newspaper without much detail. Since I don't want to post incorrect information I will just forward the post that Roger Shores made on the Southwest Kansas site today. If anyone else has more details that they wish to share please feel free to post them here. Since we are all quite fond of John and wish him the best, hopefully he will be recovering and back with us soon. BEST WISHES JOHN!!!
This is Roger's post:

"On the way home I stopped by Overland Park Regional Medical Center and visited with John Davis. John doesn't remember anything about the motorcycle accident so I have nothing on that.
John is in ICU. He has two broken wrists and a "bunged up" knee which they were going to operate on this afternoon. I had no problem getting into the ICU and they said he would be moved to a room tomorrow. I am sure he is on a lot of pain killers, but John was alert and talking as if nothing had happened. He lives in Chanute and has no family in the area. He really appreciated my visit. Things will change but for now a visit or card would be appreciated. If he gets moved to a room tomorrow a call would be nice. The hospital address and phone number is:
Overland Park Regional Medical Center

A Chanute motorcyclist was flown to Overland Park Regional Medical Center from an accident at US-169 and West Virginia Road in Allen County Wednesday morning.
Terry Johnson, 57, Iola, driving a semi with a trailer, was northbound on US-169 and and attempted to make a left turn onto West Virginia Road at about 9:17 am.
John Davis, 75, Chanute, was driving a 1982 Honda motorcycle and attempted to pass the semi, striking it on the driver’s side.
Davis received serious but not life-threatening injuries, according to a Facebook post from the Allen County Sheriff’s Department. The sheriff’s office believes he would have been killed if he had not been wearing his helmet.
The hospital reported that as of 5 pm Wednesday Davis was in critical condition.
The post quotes Sheriff Bryan Murphy as saying “In my twenty-plus years in law enforcement I have many times heard the debate about the importance of seat belts and motorcycle helmets. No matter what your views are, this morning I saw a man’s life saved, not just by our highly skilled first responders, but first by the helmet he was wearing. Everyone has a story, this person will have an opportunity to tell others how the choice he made to wear a helmet saved his life.”[size]

Re: John Davis in Motorcycle Accident
John's one terrific guy and a true motorcycle enthusiast. Glad to hear he's going to be okay thanks to wearing a helmet, though it sounds like a bit of recovery is ahead.
For years I kept the helmet I was wearing from a crash on the Blue Ridge Parkway (just as a reminder, not to wear). That day I learned you should pay attention to those "Fallen Rock" signs. Very lucky--walked away without a scratch just a couple of bruises. The lid didn't fare so well--big nasty scars that probably would have spelled "closed casket" without it. That said...let those who ride decide

Re: John Davis in Motorcycle Accident
I stopped by to see John Davis today. He was asleep he had under gone surgery on his wrists and fore arms. His color looked good. I left a note and let him sleep.
