Re: LUNCH RIDE WEDNESDAY 8-28-13 TO TIPTON
Guys - Big Jim is a man of few words so I'll jump in here and spew out some interesting things that happened yesterday on the lunch ride.
First I should say that Big Jim won't be railing on the Harley guys quite like usual since the reason he wasn't with us yesterday was because his Burgman was in the shop. Wasn't the first time either I must point out. A front wheel bearing problem was the issue this time. The first time was also a bearing issue but it was within the engine itself. I'm sure it was just bad luck because Jim uses the best re-refined oil that he is given and then strains it through his cleanest rag. All the Harley guys missed 'ya Jim. Be ready to take the heat when 'ya get her rolling again though.
As a side note though upon my recent return from Spain, I'll have to say that when ever we did see a two wheel scoot of size on the autobaun, it most generally was a Suzuki Burgman 650. They run with the best of 'em. In the inner city, the vehicle of choice is by far the scoot. Usually a 125 or 150. They're thick.
In Barcelona they're high rise apartment dwellers and have no garages so the curbs are lined with these things. Mostly Chinese or Tiwanese although there were a smattering of Italian and Japanese as well. Suzuki also makes the Burgman in a 125 version. Who'da thunk? That was one of my joys over there watching mass scooters maneuver through traffic. Heart stopping action but we never saw an accident ---- or a pick up truck. Ever heard of a SKODA? Neither had I. The're thick in Spain!
After seeing traffic overseas, Joyce says I ride too slow. So, I'll be picking up the pace on future rides. Everyone was already seated and some had finished by the time we got there. We did get there safe and sound however and on the return home got to see some beautiful county we don't normally have a chance to see. Gorgeous green rolling hills and valleys and even stopped to shoot a shot of the worlds largest ball of twine. Boy, the excitment of that!
Some stats for the day are interesting. We had 25 attend lunch today which on a warm day on a ride this far is outstanding. It's always nice to see the better half come with you guys and we had four attend today, one each from Enterprise, Chapman, Salina and Lindsborg.
Some were amused by asking for your age rather than the bike you rode as usual on the sign in sheet. I just thought I would try something different and got quite a few unusual answers, but it seems as if Delbert from Canton was the Senior ROMEO Statesman for the day with our friend Bob Lundquist taking high mileage honor today with 131 miles to his credit. Bob therefore wins another one of the coveted Washer/Dryers. Nine different communities were represented here today, More than any other ROMEO group I would wager. Salina of course was represented along with Hutchinson, Minneapolis, Cuba, Canton, Chapman, Enterprise, McPherson and Joyce and I from Lindsborg.
Well, you guys are all waiting to see the photos so here we go..........
Oops - unfortunately guys, I must have moved a bit while taking some of the photos since some were so blurred they didn't come out. I'm about ready to go shopping for a cheap simple camera that I can learn to use. I'll try to do better since everybody likes to see themselves on the screen!
