South Central Lunch Ride: Wednesday, May 1, 11:00 AM

Post by roginoz »

The weather for next Wednesday is looking better as time goes by, but there's still a chance of rain in the forecast. I'm going to err on the side of caution and keep us close to Wichita (and, coincidentally, Hutchinson) this week. Ride if it looks good, drive if it doesn't. Should we get a better than expected day, we can head out for a longer ride home.

It's been a long time since we met at the Carriage Crossing, in Yoder. Although Yoder is a small town, the Carriage Crossing is a good sized restaurant. If our group is larger than expected, they'll be able to handle us. If it's smaller than planned, they won't have put on extra help and ordered more food unnecessarily. There’s a bit of motorcycle-only parking on the south side of the parking lot for the first few who arrive, and plenty more space around back.

The lunches at the Carriage Crossing are good, and the portions are generous. The pie is usually pretty good, so it may be wise to save a little space for dessert.

We had twenty-one people, on thirteen bikes, riding 389 miles one-way to Yoder. I thought that the rain would be coming through prior to arrival, so Brian and I came by car. When we got to the Carriage Crossing it was still dry and there were a bunch of bikes in the lot. So much for the Weather Channel. We had a good turnout for what looked to be a dreary day. Next week looks like it may be better; I'll try to have a ride posted sometime Saturday. (I'm going to wait to see how the forecast pans out, hoping to get us a bit farther from home.)
