Ride Report 1-21-09

Post by Klem »

I know Larry I cheated. It was 20 degrees when I got up this morning then dropped to 18 degrees. I was hurrying around as usual and running later all the time. I was getting ready to put on my riding clothes and decided to check the temp one more time, 24 degrees. I can ride when it's that cool, but I just wasn't in the mood to mess with it, so I didn't.

Jack reports that it was 39 degrees when he got to Baldwin and 44 at 1230 after lunch, riding home would have been ok.

But you guy aren't interested in a weather report. Cordoba's in Baldwin turned out to be a good place to eat, and as Jerry pointed out a good place for K.C riders to stop for pie on the way home from other destinations. They had a varied menu, the food and service both good. We had best guess 30 riders show, two of us in cars. I talked inside too long thinking that the guys that went out had left and made it out in time to see them mount up and leave. I did get some more chatting in.

I sometimes forget how much I truly enjoy the lunch rides. It's been a part of my life for about eight years now and I've been setting up rides for the east group I think 3 full years plus a little. Don't hold me to that, I have a lousy sense of time (no comment Larry). In all that time I don't think I've met a rider I didn't like. There are too many that I don't get a chance to know, but over time some have became good friends and all I enjoy swapping stories with.

When I got home I had to fulfill a promise I had made to the dynamic duo. That would be Jim and Maggie my pups that have a combined weight of over 300 lbs. They do so love to go for a walk when it's decent, it's good for all of us and that was my promise. So walking around the yard I was looking down, a good idea when you have multiple 150 lb dogs, and noticed something green. It was new grass. Now I know that we still have winter left, but hey, green grass spring, warm days, life is good.

One last thing, well two last things. First last thing is the weather isn't looking good for next week, unless it is the end of the week. So stay tuned and we will work one in Friday if we can.

The second last thing is an explanation on things we have done to the website. Some of you may note that you cannot reply or post on the Weekly Ride forum. The reason for that is to help prevent confusion. If anyone posts a reply to a post it will move that post to the top of the heap. You might note that happened on the Central site before Jerry changed things. Now we all know that the date is in big bold letters and we all know that at least once in our life we just figured something was where is was supposed to be and ended up doing the wrong thing or going to the wrong place. This will keep the area for the rides more orderly and hopefully will prevent most if not all such mistakes.

Please understand this is not to limit feedback of any kind. If you want to comment in any way on a place we are going just start a topic in General Discussions. I have put the Ride Report under General discussions so it will be easier for you all to add to it with stories, pictures, complaints or praises.

I think Jerry is going to add some pics he took today. As always Please let us know what you are thinking, or if you need help email Jerry or I and we can get you fixed up.

Thanks

Don

Nice day for a ride, even if it did start out a little cool. Good choice of a place too, Don. It was good to see everybody there and had a good lunch too. Here are the pics I took of the place - dial-up users beware, there are 26 photos I will upload here so be prepared for a wait!

Remember, as always, you can click on a picture to see a larger version of it. If anyone wants an individual copy of a photo just let me know by email (click on the little email icon on the right) and I will send it to you.

Excellent pictures Jerry :D :D :D and an excellent report Don :D :D . Sure the temps could have been higher when I left Chanute in the morning, but it was a beautiful day for a ride and the ride home - through Wellsville, Rantoul and Lane - was excellent also. Twas nice to see Walt who rode in from Manhattan fully electrified :o!!!

John---us old people need lots of electricity to keep our motors running---hot hands, warm butt and than a little warmth around the old bod---you really ought to try some.

It's always good to see you.
