Blood

Post by roginoz »

I just came from our local Red Cross Blood Services Board meeting, and thought it might be a good time to remind everyone of the need for blood donations over the holidays.

Blood is something that can't be manufactured; we are the only source. It has a limited shelf life, and the need is constant. It's one of the few things you can do that may literally save a life. It doesn't take long, doesn't really hurt, and you'll make more to replace what you've given.

Here's a chance to do something good for someone you'll probably never meet. (Good to have some karma in the account...) I'm planning to donate blood again on December 17; I hope it helps someone's else's friend or family member, and that none of us here need it.

Here's a link to the "Perfect Gift" video the American Red Cross is running this season:

By the way, did I mention that there's a nice lady with cookies when you finish your donation?

If the Red Cross still serves those "Tasty Sloppy Joe Sandwiches"--this could become a location for a Romeo Lunch.. A room full of yellow shirts would look great...

When the national Red Cross moved to standard vendors the sloppy joes fell by the wayside. I tend to favor motoring a few blocks over to Ty's Diner (now under new and enthusiastic management) after giving blood. The patty melt is the hot ticket.

Blood

Post by Woody469 »

I have ate at Ty's since 1981 and although the new owners are doing good things with the place I feel they have ruined the burger itself! I have almost always ate there at least once a week but I haven't been back in for months now since the last 10 or so burgers I had there were WAY over cooked, and way to fast, I think they must have that grill maxed out! I have been there through all 6 owner changes and really am saddened by the loss.....

Only you guys could turn a discussion about blood donations into a conversation about lunch! Yeesh.

Remember the rule about not donating blood if you have recently had ink done. Just sayin...

I recently wrote an address on my hand with a pen. Does that count a recent ink done? ;) Dennis

Depends on whose address it was.
