West Point was just the beginning of this unforgettable adventure. Other highlights included a visit to the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library, the vintage charm of the Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome, and a memorable dinner at the Culinary Institute of America. Our scenic ride took us through the rolling landscapes of eastern New York, western Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Vermont. We strolled the Walkway Over the Hudson, took a ferry across Lake Champlain to explore historic Fort Ticonderoga, and spent a truly “grand” night at the Amsterdam Castle. The journey continued with winding roads through the Catskills and a stop at the Bennington Battle Monument—each experience adding to an exceptional trip that blended history, beauty, and camaraderie.
The restaurants along the way offered something for every palate, with a variety so satisfying that I gained five pounds just trying to keep up! Our overnight accommodations were consistently first-class—comfortable, memorable, and appreciated by all. The standout was our stay at Amsterdam Castle in Amsterdam, NY—a truly unique experience. With its grand halls and medieval charm, it felt like something straight out of history, where even Henry VIII would have felt right at home, surrounded by “knights in shining armor.”
It was a truly special trip—made even more memorable by experiencing it on a motorcycle. The Hudson Valley and surrounding region are stunning, and Steve brought it all to life with his planning, knowledge, and passion. Thank you, Steve, for an unforgettable journey.Melissa planned a great birthday celebration for Roger's 80th birthday at the Roots Restaurant in Rutland on June 11. It was a celebration fit for the 80th, complete with flowers, hor-d'oeuve, champagne and of course, a birthday cake. Roger was coerced into doing 80 pushups at several public venues along the way.
