Cruising the Potomac: A Different Take on DC’s Cherry Blossoms
This wasn’t quite the trip we had envisioned. We set out expecting stunning views of the cherry blossoms as we cruised along the Potomac River. Turns out, the boat stayed so far from shore that it was hard to make out what we were looking at. To top it off, we didn’t even go as far north as the National Mall.
That being said, while the cherry blossoms weren’t the highlight from the boat, the cruise itself was something special. The hospitality was outstanding—the crew made us feel so welcome that we were just happy to be there. The atmosphere was filled with drinks, food, and dancing, and most of the passengers were so caught up in the fun inside that they never even ventured outside. Meanwhile, up on the upper deck, we had it all to ourselves.
Looking at our route tracker, we realized we had simply gone a little north of Reagan Airport before turning around and heading slightly south again. We joked that the real entertainment wasn’t the cherry blossoms but watching planes take off and land!
However, the adventure didn’t end there. After disembarking, we decided to track down the cherry blossoms ourselves. At Hains Point Picnic Area, we finally found what we had been looking for—rows of beautiful blossoms in full bloom!
In the end, it was a great trip, full of unexpected moments and lots of fun. And of course, we wrapped it up in the best way possible—with the Flavor of the Day at Spelunkers!
We can't wait to go back for a Sunset Cruise on the Potomac
