North Central ROMEO Weekly Ride for 8/21/19

Post by Roadpounder »

Here's a new place we've never been to before. I stumbled upon it while I was rotting my brain surfing around Face Book. The weather prophets are promising a good day and if I keep improving I think I'll be making this one too. I'll be sure to check for a card in my camera this time. The problem was that I misplaced my backup card for my computer and took the one from the camera in the mean time. Then I forgot that I did it when it came time for the ride.

Another successful meeting of the minds was concluded this morning, at the repository of all wisdom and knowledge. Among other things we extolled the virtues of the toll road, which I avoid like the plague. I'm not in that much of a hurry that I need to pay their extortion fee just to put my tires on their pavement. We also decided, through seconds of deliberation, that we would meet at the Roadway Inn @ 10:00.

TIME........11:30

I want to express my heart felt thanks for all the support and encouragement during my latest ordeal. It was a tough go for a while but I'm about 90% back, and this is the second ride I made since. Thanks again.

I started the day with more than a little trepidation. It was overcast when I got up so I checked the radar. To the west and moving east southeast I saw what looked clouds with long fangs moving toward Salina. It had a tail to the south that looked like it might just brush us. All looked good to the south. Calling up the radar forecast it looked like it might just hold off until we left and be past by the time we got back. Throwing caution to the wind I set out for the Roadway Inn. I arrived shortly after Dave Soper. Neither of us knew how to get to Valley Center but soon Terry Powell arrived and we were encouraged. After the arrival of a few more, launch time rolled around and we were off. Terry took the lead and dutifully followed in tow. After what seemed substantial period of time we pulled off to see where we were. After some deliberation and the assistance of a smart phone we got our bearings and found our way to Valley Center. Rolling into town I kept my eye peeled looking for something that might look like a burger restaurant, but Terry was quicker on the draw and when he turned into the lot I saw all the bikes and thought that this must be the place. After taking about three quarters of the outdoor pictures I ran into more camera problems. It told me that the card was full. In desperation I deleted some old pictures and dropped the resolution down to 2 meg and I was able to get the rest of the shots with 2 to spare. I have to find the bigger card. It's around here somewhere. The fare of the restaurant was mostly burgers and BBQ sandwiches. I opted for the BBQ Beef sandwich and was pleasantly surprised by how tasty it was. Definitely a place I would visit again. Again I was last man out, so I joined the tire kicking session. There I met Chuck Unruh. No relation to Mark Unruh , although they are acquainted with each other and share some common interests. Chuck is familiar with Moto Guzzis so he and I could share some stories. But alas. All good things must come to an end and it came time to leave. I turned left out of the restaurant and it took me about a block to realize that I was headed south, the way we entered town from. A quick U turn and I headed north to the first thing that looked like a main road going east. I figured If I went that way I'd find something that looked like it went the right way. Before long I found I135, and not being in a particularly exploratory mood I jumped on the slab for the ride home.
