RED ALERT!! After rechecking the very volatile weather that we have been having lately, I found that Tuesday is offering much better temperature, however not offering quite as much sun and much less wind. In any case temperature trumps sunshine so I switched our ride to Tuesday. Their special that day is a taco bar. I hope that doesn't throw a monkey wrench into anyone's plans.
Tell your friends.
FYI for all the trikers out there. I just acquired a bubble balancer for balancing automotive style wheels. So if you need any tire changes or other tire work I'm ready for you.
I dodged a bullet today. My phone reminded me of an appointment with my cancer Dr. tomorrow at 1:40. I went in today to give a blood sample for them to analyze. Then much like the guy who spent the night on his roof wondering where the sun went, it finally dawned on me. (rim shot)

Wow! I must have had a synapse or two snap on me. Somehow when planning this week's ride to Sylvan Grove, the images conjured in my fertile mind were of Liebenthal. This little tidbit of info didn't come to my attention until we pulled into Sylvan Grove and nothing looked as I expected. I haven't seen that level of confusion since a highly intoxicated former neighbor came to my house in the middle of the night insisting that it was hers. When we finally let her in, the confused look on her face was staggering. In her defense, we lived in a row of 4 identical condos, and in her impaired condition, she simply chose the wrong one. I felt much the same when, in my mind I was picturing Liebenthal and was in fact seeing Sylvan Grove. Now you know why I don't take the lead on these rides. We'd probably end up in Boise.
The weather couldn't have been better. We gathered at the Quality Inn, and by launch time we had assembled a group of 8. Engines firing up tipped me off that it was time to go. Leo loaded I woke my noble steed from her slumber and launched in turn. It didn't take me long to get in to sync with the bike and settle in for a very enjoyable ride. Leo was in his element barking at anything in sight that had 4 legs. Is I stated Sylvan Grove hit me as a surprise, but I managed to go with the flow. I found Leo a nice shady spot and went on the photo hunt. The special of the day was a taco bar. I wasn't really up for that idea so I was planning on ordering from the menu. Once inside the eating was well underway and after the shots indoors I found a seat at the table with Richard and Joyce. Waitresses were few and far between and my belly was demanding some attention. At that moment I decided that the tacos didn't look too bad after all, so I attacked the bar. I didn't make a mistake since it had been a long time since I enjoyed tacos, and these didn't disappoint. In fact they really hit the spot and I managed to kill 5 of them. But alas, poor Leo got aced out on this trip, and I had to make it up to him when we got home. Outside the tire kicking was in full swing. Ron McCash brought his Polaris Slingshot which started to attract some attention. Harold Chase event took it for a short ride. Was offered to me for a test ride but I declined. It didn't seem to be made for someone of my, um, “magnitude”. All too soon all the tires were kicked and the earth shattering issues were solved, and the crowd started to thin out. I got Leo mounted up and we rolled out of town. The day had turned onto a perfect riding day as we motored down K18 toward K81. At K81 I turned onto the entrance ramp and grabbed a handful of throttle to let my bike sing my favorite song as we ran up through the gears accelerating to freeway speed. I never get tired of that. My mother always said that I was a reincarnation of my late uncle Jim, who was also a pilot and like me, loved the sound of engines. Thoroughly enraptured in the ride it didn't take long Crawford Ave. to sneak up on me and we were home. Another great ride in the books.
We had riders from Salina, Beloit, Bunker Hill, Hunter, Sylvan Grove, Denmark, Beverly, Abilene, Minneapolis, Hutchenson, Lindsborg, and with the long distance being Norm Schmidt from Abilene at 95 Miles.
We were riding Honda, Harley, Yamaha, Suzuki, BMW, Kawasaki, Polaris Slingshot, and Moto Guzzi.
