Option A this week is a two-stop lunch ride to Appleton City, Mo. Lunch will be 11:00 at the Rustic Duck, a restaurant, art gallery, and country getaway. The restaurant is normally closed on Tuesday, but Jamie will open just for us. She said the doors will be open earlier than 11:00 so we can enjoy the atmosphere of this unique place. The restaurant is on a gravel road about a mile off the highway. Don’t worry about the gravel—we’ve got a plan if you don’t like gravel!

Before lunch we will visit Zink Motors in Appleton City and they will provide shuttle service to and from the restaurant for anyone uncomfortable on gravel roads. Jeff Cross, one of our ROMEOs and the proprietor of Zink Motors, suggests we gather at the dealership starting at 9 and take a tour of the dealership. The tour takes about 30 minutes and highlights the history of the 108-year-old ford dealership and the community. They take people in groups of around 10 at a time. The dealership experience is on a historic level and not sales oriented. Jeff and his son serve as the tour guides and do this several times a year on special occasions. Here is a newspaper article from last year about the history of Zink Motors.

I will be at Zink Motors at 9am. I hope you can join me for what promises to be an enjoyable experience.

Option B this week will be Chops BBQ in Smithville, MO, it's been a while since we've been there, so I think it's time for BBQ. Doors open at 11:00, they always take good care of us. The weather looks like a typical Missouri day, so 2, 3 or 4 wheels, hope to see you there.

Today we had 12 ROMEOS at Chops BBQ in Smithville. Four of us did not believe the weatherman and enjoyed a nice ride! The food was good, the conversation pleasant and the service great as usual. Rosetta and I missed the last one as we were cruising with another group of friends in the Southern Caribbean. Nice to go but great to come home.

We had 25 +/- ROMEOs and nearly as many bikes in Appleton City today. Our day started off at Zink Motors with a tour conducted by Jeff or Stephen Cross. We were enlightened on the intricacies of operating the Model T, learned that auto owners only used their cars to go out of town and kept them in the dealership building the rest of the time, and we learned that vehicle maintenance was done on the second floor. We saw beautiful 100 yr old cars and tried to figure out what some of the tools were for. I don't know how many took Jeff up on the offer of a ride but from the number of bikes and cars at the restaurant, I think most of us braved the gravel.

After the tour, we went to the Rustic Duck where we filled up the front dining room. Jamie and her staff did an excellent job of making us feel welcome and the food was great too. I hope you took a few minutes to look around at the artifacts on the walls and in the other rooms. It looked like everyone was having a great time.

I want to say a special thanks to Jeff for suggesting this experience and for helping put it together. Also, thank you to Jamie and her staff for coming in on on their day off to make our day complete. I, for one, will be coming back.
