ROMEOS

We had a short ride northeast last week, so let's ride a bit farther southwest next week. We'll head to Kristy's, in Anthony, for the pizza and salad buffet. They also have sandwiches and pasta, which are excellent but take a bit longer. (Don't try to eat a “whole” sandwich unless you're a really big boy; the half size is what everyone else calls regular.) It’s a nice trip down to Anthony, and Kristy and her staff enjoy seeing us.

It's about sixty miles to Anthony from Wichita; a nice ride if the weather is good, and really not too far to drive if it isn't. Right now it looks like Wednesday will be a bit cold but a decent day to ride; time to get out and enjoy some of the good autumn riding while it lasts.

You're probably tired of hearing it, but COVID19 is still around. Those of us who attend ROMEO rides need to act responsibly, to reduce the threat to ourselves and others. If you're not vaccinated, please stay home. By the way, all of us are now eligible for booster shots. (My wife and I got ours last week; easy painless, and free.)

Misty wet morning brought on a small group with only four bikers and others arriving in 4 wheel this and that. The food was plentiful and the best I have eaten there. Loved it! Service was friendly and the young lady enjoyed us as much as we appreciated her service.

As mentioned we had 4 bikes today, and 7 arriving in car and truck rides. Bike total mileage was 321 one way miles to Kristy’s Kafe. Sidecar Biker Bob rolled in from Eldorado on his Harley, 115 one way miles to be top mileage rider. Ron turned in an even 90, while Roger and Brian made 58 miles each.

Lets do it again next week. Watch for a new destination late Friday. Photos below.

On my way home I went through a near deserted town, Freeport, Kansas. Years past there was a dirt road leading to the town, and greeting was a sign: Freeport Kansas, Population 3 - the road has been paved and that sign is now gone, sadly. The main standing building was first the bank, then post office, then city hall. It has not been opened for 10 years, and the door is locked and key now lost. I made a few images of what's left and post below the ROMEO snaps.

Gary, Thank you. You noticed Sidecar Biker Bob was having problems zipping his jacket!! That was his big plate of pizza, after 2 trips to the salad bar!

Those were some great pictures. The little house in the ghost town must have been a bachelor pad. It sure would have been tight raising a family in it!
