Guys - Don't know how the rest of you guys feel but I think this was my last picnic! My wife even said 'what's the point'!
The ride over was wonderfully cool and the wind was our friend for a change. We arrived within reasonably close proximity to the established time 11 o'clock time just to find a few bikes still parked at the curb while others were loading up to leave.
Numerous others had arrived early and had already left.
Now, my idea of the purpose of a joint picnic is to spend some time getting acquainted with folks within the other groups but apparently such a concern is not shared by the majority of members. I did very much enjoy renewing old friendships with those I recognized from times past but I also observed that each area seemed to mostly stick to itself rather than attempt to interact with other groups. This is just normal human nature at work.
The other thing the picnic brought to light to me was, we weren't helping anyone here. Our original mantra was to help the little ma and pa places in small towns that were in an economic battle to survive. To use the combined weight of our organization to do good and have a fun time doing it. Many brought their own sack lunch. I stopped and bought mine at Arby's. Are they struggling? I doubt it!
I had a fun time on the ride over and back but I felt something was missing. I would much rather have had a joint ride somewhere to some little place. That's just me, but others I have spoken with have indicated the same sentiment.
I totally look forward to the spring and fall outings. They are pure enjoyment to me. This thing is not! Sorry!
