Ride the Natchez Trace - March 21

A place to list other riding events. Anyone is welcome to announce any kind of group ride - whether it is for just a handful of riders or for a major event.

Ride the Natchez Trace - March 21

Post by Richard »

Guys - For some time this winter, we've been talking about doing some different things this year. Taking a few longer rides than just to lunch and back. This Spring Outing might just be the springboard (get it...spring..board) to get this started.
Bucky always does a bang up job of arranging things for us and I don't intend to muck anything up that he has planned, but just as soon as the Rendezvous is over, at checkout on Thursday the 21st of March, a few of us will be geared up to take off on another trip.
Natchez Trace, here we come! It's been on my bucket list' for ages now and this is the time to get 'er done.
We'll be heading out from Eureka Springs over to hwy 65 and South from there. Where to you might ask. Glad to tell 'ya....we're gonna ride the Natches Trace Parkway from the Southern end to the Northern point. All 444 miles of it. We'll play it by ear camping or lodging as you see fit. Plans are still being developed but this will be just one big loop that eventually heads us back to Central Kansas after all is said and done.
I you desire, you're welcome to ride along for as little or as much as you want, and drop off anytime we near your stomping grounds. If we end up with a huge convoy, we may split into smaller groups to make the whole thing more manageable, similar to how things are handled at the Annual Spring ROMEO Outing itself.
As time goes on check back here for the actual ride route and if you have some suggestions as to 'must see' things, let's hear about 'em. After all this is a bucket list agenda item so we don't want to miss a thing! Richard

You will love this trip. It is one I will always remember. Below is a l link to pictures I took on my trip. They were already on the web so I didn't edit out pictures that were not of the Nachez Trace Trail. I am sure you will be able to figure out what pictures are on the Nachez Trace.

We went to the Grand Ol' Opry in Nashville, before starting the trip. We stayed in Tupelo, MS, about half way, and went to Elvis's birthplace. Not much to see.
Be ready to enjoy the sites along the road. There is alot to see and the speed limit is 45 or 55 mph. We had never been to Nachez, MS and we really enjoyed it. We toured a plantation, a mansion and ate alot!! This is a great trip to have on your bucket list. You will always remember it!!

Parthenon in Nashville???

The Parthenon stands proudly as the centerpiece of Centennial Park, Nashville's premier urban park. The re-creation of the 42-foot statue Athena is the focus of the Parthenon just as it was in ancient Greece. The building and the Athena statue are both full-scale replicas of the Athenian originals.

Originally built for Tennessee's 1897 Centennial Exposition, this replica of the original Parthenon in Athens serves as a monument to what is considered the pinnacle of classical architecture. The plaster replicas of the Parthenon Marbles found in the Naos are direct casts of the original sculptures which adorned the pediments of the Athenian Parthenon, dating back to 438 B.C. The originals of these powerful fragments are housed in the British Museum in London.

I have been to Nashville, but had no idea this existed. Depending on your time, this time or another time, this looks like something worth seeing. Has anyone seen this? Is it worth seeing?

>Has anyone seen this? Is it worth seeing?<

Since I'm a native Tennessean I went to it as a kid (yep, it isn't just the one in Greece that's been around longer than I have  ).

From a kid's point of view it was incredible, like nothing I'd ever seen except in the movies.

So those of us heading into (or already arrived at) our 2nd childhood should also enjoy it
