Guys - The weather guy is not cooperating at all lately. Not that we don't need rain. I'm not against rain by and large but three weeks in a row on Wednesdays is not being cooperative. We've been good, we pay our taxes on time, mostly, and we slow down for pedestrians in the crosswalk. We strive to not speed to much over the limit. We're being kind to the envionment by the very fact that we ride these fuel efficient vehicles and we try and get back home on Wednesdays in time enough to be on time for evening services so why the punishment? What more is reqired? Is someone other than Evan being bad? Is it the tall tales? Is it the exaggerations? Is it the lack of repentance? Oh yes, I did hit a rabbit on my midnite ride the other day but..........It is Evan isn't it! ;)
OK, rain or no rain we going! This is a new one altogether. I've stopped in a time or two as most of us have but have you eaten there? I haven't and most of you guys probably haven't either. With a 30% chance of rain I didn't want to wase my good ones or pick one of the upcoming long distance rides that I have planned for such an iffy day so it boiled down to this. I think we'll have fun here anyway and just think of it as 'Slumm'in'. We've all done it! Wear 'yer shorts and sneakers like 'Big Jim' although it's not MSF advised. Do wear 'yer helmet though!

The menu should have something for nearly everyone. Here's just a sample of what I was able to glean from their board.
12" pizza $9.49
ham & cheese sand. 3.49
bar b que brisket 3.69
sloppy joe's 3.49
polish dog 2.59
pasta salad 2.59
freezer sandwiches various prices

Here's the place.......................Smoky Hill Trading Post
1/4 mile south of the dam
Kanopolis Lake
1954 Hwy.141
Marquette, Ks. 67464
785-546-2665

As always.....................ride careful, ride safe and I'll see you at the Dam Trading Post. Richard

Guys - I learned a long time ago never discount a good time. Fact is that I picked this destination because of the weather primarily and of course the proximity to the majority of North Central ROMEO riders. The place isn't at all fancy but we all had a marvelous time. The food was good, better that I expected actually. And we didn't get rained on even though the thought had occured to me that it might happen on the way over. It was a bit brisk but then it's still early in the year. I judge summer by my cats coat. When he starts to shed, I know we're getting close to good riding weather.
Quite a few decided to join me today because final count for lunch was twenty-two. Mostly our local regulars but we were pleased to see Pat and Roger Davidson come visit us from Marquette and reminding all of us of Thunder on the Smoky which will take place next month on the 19th of May. Y'all put that one down on 'yer calendar, here!
The parking lot, I'm sure, looked strange to all the regulars at the Trading Post because of the strange assortment of vehicles present today. Two, yes, two sidecar rigs were present and I'm happy to say that Dale and his wife Loretta were back agin with us after a long absence since their sidecar accident last year on the way over to Little River for a ROMEO lunch. Hope we see more of them this summer. And of course Steve's Can-Am always draws a crowd as it continued to do today, and I have to note that today he won the coveted high mileage award having covered 45.7 miles to win it. As I said, we didn't draw a crowd from very far away.
Ice cream didn't make the agenda although I tried twisting some arms but the chill factor kept it pretty low on everyones radar. What we did do however was go to an old time cycle repair shop as you might remember them years ago. We hit Cycle CPR in McPherson. It's so stealth that Bill didn't even know it was there. Owned and operated by Larry Hemker, it's just like the shops I used to hang around when I was a kid. Larry is retired and makes it plain right up front that he does this as a hobby not a job, so if 'yer in a hurry, go somewhere else. But, if you have and 'old' bike and can't get if fixed anywhere else like almost anywhere anymore with a ten year or older bike....that's what he specialized in. And if you just happen to own a chinese scoot, like I do, he's the only game in town. Not that that's a bad thing because Larry's a wizard at fix'in nearly anything and just one look at some of the tools he has improvised to work on things is a marvel in and of itself. Larry's located a block south of the Kansas Street Fire Station in McPherson in what used to be and old lumber yard. But be warned....if 'ya don't have time to talk....stay away!
I was fully prepared today with sign up sheet and camera ready to take some fine photos but after the first shot, my low battery chimed in and everything quit so here's my only picture!...
Sorry that I missed the rest of 'ya........

Hey Richard. Doris and I drove south on BurMac road and did 5 water crossing with our Olds. Not even a good idea on a sidecar. When we got to Haven John From Kansas City was half way through his bowl of potato soup. Shortly there after Delbert from Salina shows up. They both rode in some rain. Harold from McPherson

Hi all you ROMEO's; Just an update on my surgery. I had two bypass's, and the aortic valve replaced with a doner valve on tuesday. The doctors and the nurses said I was doing very well, and I was released from the hospital on Easter sunday. The Lord has been extremely good to me through this whole thing. If things had gone any other way, I would not be here. I had what they call a "sudden death cardiac arrest", but there was a doctor at the flying field along with another fellow that knew CPR, and they kept me alive until the EMT's got there ten minutes later. It will be awhile before I get back to normal, but am feeling a little stronger each day, and the doctors say I will be better than I have been for a long time. I am so blessed so that I don't even have any heart or brain damage. I will see you all down the road when I can.
