Flint Hill ROMEO Dual-Sport Ride

Is anyone interested in a day-long Flint Hills Dual-Sport Ride? The length would be approximately 100 miles.
I regularly ride the roads and trails around Tuttle Creek, along with the roads & trails north and south of I70 between Junction City and Eskridge. I would be willing to lead a ride on gravel road, minimum maintenance roads, trails to include water crossings, if desired.
If we planned the ride on a Wednesday, we could plan lunch in Alma, possibly meeting up with the rest of the ROMEO. I would characterize this ride as a dual-sport ride.
If interested, please post and let me know. Alma provides a great location for both groups to meet.

Ken the kid, Please let me know. A little dirt and mud is good for the soul. The ol' XR is needing some time on it and the flint hills is a wonderful place to take care of that.

Spread the word. It would be great to have a lot of bikes. This is some of the best off-road riding in the state and I really think everyone will enjoy the ride. While the rest of the world is working, I like to play in dirt in the flint hills. It's good for the soul.

I'm definitely interested. Just post date, time, location and I'll plan on joining if I don't have a conflict.

Ken:
I suggest that you could make this a separate ride on a different day than Wed.
Or shoot for April 29th as we are having a joint ride to Leonardville on that day. I've been checking the weather the next couple of weeks and I know that more than a day ahead is pure guess work but the two week forecast has a lot of rain in it. Let me know when you want to go for it and if it is on a Wed. I'll include your info along with the meeting place on the ride notice. Don

All,
The first Dual-Sport Flint Hill's ride will meet at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 14th at Deb's Cafe in Alma, Kansas. After a quick bite, we plan on riding about 75-100 miles on dirt trails and gravel roads in the hills to the west of town. We will stay on dirt. However, at times we will cross hard surface roads like Highway 177 or ride short stretches of hard surface county roads to connect with other roads or trails.
ALL ROMEOs are welcome to join us for the ride. The ride will be at an intermediate skill level. However, for those that are a bit more adventurous, I can add some more difficult trails. I can also eliminate others for riders that are less experienced.

Crap, I can't make either Tues or Wed this coming week. Sorry 'bout that. I hope we get the chance again. The old KLR is sitting in the garage feeling ignored! Thanks for setting this up Ken.

I ride these roads several times a month. So, I would be willing to set up a monthly off-road ride if there is interest. The only month I can't set up a ride is June. I'm riding to the Arctic Circle in Northern Yukon in June.
I can also take a smaller group or a single person anytime into the hills. Just let me know.

All,
The rain we received out here in the Flint Hills should actually make tomorrows ride better, since there won't be any dust to contend with. For those of you that are concerned about your ability to ride in mud, I have plotted about a 75 miles of great secondary gravel roads through the Flint Hills that shouldn't be affected by the 3/4 of an inch of rain we received this past weekend. These roads will take you just south of the Konza Prairie and if desired, a river crossing at Pilsbury Crossing. If time permits, we can ride east of Alma towards the town of Eskridge on more great roads.
The weather promises to be high 60s with clear skies. Hope to see you there.
Ken

Everyone seems to enjoy themselves last Tuesday during the first scheduled dual-sport ride through the Flint Hills. We rode about 80 miles of dirt and gravel, with several low water crossing. With the recent rains, it was slick in a few spots. However, all were able to get through it.
If you were unable to attend this ride, I will host another dual-sport ride in the few weeks, once the Flint Hills green up. These photos are of Jerry crossing Pilsbury Crossing on Don's DR. Don is looking on in the background.
