Guys - I didn't make it today. Too cold for yours truly! I could probably come up with some kind of excuse but in the long run, it just boiled down to.....it was tooooo cold for me. Knees and upper thighs felt like pins were going thru them from the cold....and Joyce.....she shakes like a paint shaker with her hyper sensitivity to the cold.
Big Jim posted this for me as I have always had a conflict on the first Wednesday of the month. Jim is however somewhat new to this winter thing, and this was his first posting on a marginal day. I have not gone over the temperature stipulations with him as I aught to have done so it's not his fault for the frigid ride today, it's mine. I should have properly preparing him for winter temperature limitations. And....today would have qualified!
In past years, We have a guideline that unless the temperature is expected to meet or exceed 55 degrees at the heat of the day, no ride will be called of any distance. Exceptions always prevail and we have at times even lowered the temperature rule from 55 degrees to 50 degrees if the ride is only a short one. Even these can be hard to distinguish with the weather patterns changing frequently but they are a reasonably accepted guideline that I have followed with mostly acceptable results. Exceptions not withstanding!
Anyway, Evan just left a short while ago after bringing me the attendance sheet from the day with eleven (11) names of those in attendance. Outstanding! And a complete surprise to me that that number would ride that far in the cold of the day.
The attendance sheet was handled by Jean today and I appreciate her effort to jump in and take charge in my absence. I know it was Jean because I recognize her penmanship. She even highlighted the temperature of the day today as 37 degrees. I also appreciate her humor in changing the columns on the sheet and adding riders weight. Some may have fudged here I suspect. Others chose for one reason or another not to answer and that's fine, it's all just in fun as the one who stated 100 pounds and plenty more.
Don Typer from Hesston recorded the long distance ridden to lunch today of 75 miles and thereby locked in the win on the coveted long distance award, a washer/dryer. So, Don, don't let me forget to present you with one.I just happened to have assembled some of them last night as a matter of fact.
Even though I was not there to take some pics for the day, I did happen to take one as we were prepairing to leave earlier in the day before totally wimping out.
Pics to follow......
