Wednesday - A 20 percent chance of showers. Mostly sunny, with a high near 70.

Group riders can depart Petro on north 9th at 11:00 am for the 50 minute ride to Aurora.

"OTTAWA COUNTY - Beginning Wednesday, the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) plans to begin resurfacing K-106 in Ottawa County.

Project work will consist of a surface recycle on about 7 miles of K-106 from the east city limits of Minneapolis to the Ottawa County State Fishing Lake. (See map above).

During construction, flaggers and a pilot car will be used to guide one lane of traffic through construction at a reduced speed. Drivers should plan for delays of 15 minutes or less during daylight hours."

Beautiful day for a ride and one of our favorite restaurants. Miranda always has excellent food and this time was no exception. We had around 29-30 riders show up today. 17 got grilled pork chops and the rest had hamburgers and fries.

Here are some pictures -

From the Concordia newspaper in 2021 -
When there is talk about the history of Cloud County, at some point the Broken Arrow Saloon in Aurora has to be mentioned.
The restaurant opened in 1888, so the moment you step inside you're taking a step back in time. For 123 years people from all walks of life have sauntered through its doors looking for a meal or a cold beer.
Ah, if those walls could talk.
The history of the restaurant - the allure - is part of the reason why Miranda Clanin now runs the place.
Born and raised in Paradise, Texas, a small town north of Fort Worth, Clanin's mother and father were from the Aurora area. Her mother once lived one block from the Broken Arrow Saloon.
"My aunt used to run this place," Clanin said. "When we were kids, my family always came here on vacations. I remember being in this bar and drinking pop and eating candy bars. I love this area. I've always wanted to live here."
In Texas, Clanin worked in the corporate world. "I've been in the food service industry since I was 14," she said. "My first job was at a McDonalds."
Clanin learned to cook from her mother, Deb Collette, and her neighbor, Jackie Lewis. "I was always in the kitchen with my mom or Jackie. I had four younger brothers, so we did a lot of cooking. Jackie Lewis lived down the road from us in Paradise. She taught me all about baking, especially pies and sweets."
Clanin said that it was always a dream of hers to open her own restaurant, and when she heard that the Broken Arrow was available, she didn't think twice. "I was back here for a family reunion last year, and mentioned something about the Broken Arrow. My aunt, Mary Jane Collette, made a call to Mary Blackwell, and the very next day I was shaking hands with Jim Sulanka."
Clanin made the move to Aurora seven months ago, and reopened the Broken Arrow selling home cooked meals and ice cold beer. "We make everything from scratch. A lot of my recipes come from me experimenting over the years until I got it just right. Every day we're open there's a special meal at 5 p.m."
The meals are varied and always sumptuous. Customer favorites are chicken fried steak, smothered pork chops, and lasagna. "But our busiest nights are Saturdays, because that's steak night," Clanin said. "We're always hoppin' and poppin' on Saturdays!"
On any given day Clanin will also bake up a batch of homemade pies, including pecan, buttermilk, and apple crisp.
Be aware, when you order the cheese sticks - another customer favorite - the name is a little misleading. "They're called cheese sticks, but they're about the size of a log," Clanin said with a laugh. "I'm thinking of renaming them cheese logs."
There's always cold, cold beer in the bar. "All my beer is either iced down or you get an ice cold mug for the draft beer."
Clanin reminds customers not to worry if the parking lot looks full, especially on Saturday nights. "Come on in, we've got plenty of seating."
For over a century the Broken Arrow Saloon has been a rural gathering spot for the folks of Cloud County. When the restaurant is "hopping' and popping'", it's loud. It's 'Broken Arrow noisy' as customers - as a time-honored tradition - meander from one table to the other to say hello and talk about almost anything, from crops and the weather, to politics and food. Stop by sometime and join in.
The Broken Arrow Saloon is located at 240 East Main Street in Aurora. It is open Thursday-thru-Monday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. They are closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Their phone number is 785-464-1014, and you can always follow them on Facebook and see what the special meal or pie of the day is.
