Re: Fools in April Campout

You guys just left too soon. Terry, Lee, Dan & myself had a great ride via back roads to El Dorado where we all rode the new 800 Triumph--a really smooth and quick machine. Sun came out and it was 72 or so ( and dry). Bob and Kat joined us later along with Larry B and Jerry. Campfire (with oak),...

Fools in April Campout

Tax time is not far off and that means it's also time for our 3rd annual Fools in April campout at Pomme De Terre lake in Hermitage, Mo. Dates are Fri & Sat--April 15th & 16th. This year we are going to have a "Hobo Stew" pot on Fri nite. Bring a can of vegetables, potatoes, beans ...

Re: THE CHILL

Congrats !! A great looking bike. I always wondered what the entire bike looked like as I installed a "599" headlight assembly on my 1988 Hawk GT--really lit up my life. Two separate H-11 bulbs, one of which can be changed to a H-9 for even more light.

Re: GPS

Ya got me ! I couldn't resist the $189 deal on the Nuvi 500. I found the cradle mount and 1" diamond ball at gpscity.com--$8.95 and $5.59, as the mount has the hardware, but no ball mount. My old 2620 had been replaced under the 1 year warranty and I think service on those has been discontinued...

Re: GPS

Tom, that works well in Kansas, Nebraska and other grid laid out states--but it didn't work for me in Morganton N.C where everything was "on a clock". I got lost a lot. Hate to admit it, but sometimes when I would pull off for gas on an access road, was tired--then got back on the main roa...

Re: GPS

Road Map, Sun Dial, and Calender is all a real motorcyclist needs. Bucky Remember the time when all of us got lost on the backroads of Alabama? I was using a gps, but it didn't help. Sundial's dead reckoning just took us around in the same circle, then analytical Bob figured it out and we were on o...

Re: Kiss your Wife!

I really like Texas--friendly people, great roads. We considered moving to the hill country, but never could quite find the place that clicked. SOOOO--we are here in AR, and are really pleased with our decision. Best riding roads in the country, buncha old retired people like us, great medical, not ...

Re: Testing for Ethanol

OK--The streets are a sheet of ice here in AR. Staying inside, so nothing to do except reply to various posts. Being in the "twin lakes" area there are numerous boats--in fact almost everyone here has a boat, or goes fishing often (except me). Ethanol is especially bad for outboards and ha...

Can't believe you didn't pick a flea bag motel (just kidding Bucky) . This one looks really nice and I have made my res. already. The fire pit will be just like camping, only better. :D Leo

Re: Remember when?

Did you ever pass your buddy and reach down and turn off his gas or ignition on the way by? How about "parking" with your motorcycle, riding into the park to the pick nick tables. Yes, I do remember pulling the key out of the brit bikes that had them on the side panel--and as far as "...

Jerry: So glad you made it there ok and are having "positive" experiences blending in. I am also a displaced Kansan here in AR and appreciate you getting me set up on the website. Occasionally I can make a lunch ride from here in N. Central AR ( as in Tightwad) . Will try more as the days ...

Re: Remember when?

Nortons, Triumphs and BSA's were languishing in garages across the nation--unwanted and unloved because of the "superior" Japanese bikes--and could be purchased for about $1.00 per cc. Cushman's also had not appreciated and there were rare finds. Fast forward--now the throwaway jap stuff i...

Re: Fools in April Campout

Great campout--no rain except for the KC guys coming down on Fri. One of the best facilities with a fire pit, horseshoes and a shelter with electricity. 11 riders, not all for both nights. Jim Bishop took some pix and a video with camp/area guide and secret undercover operative (Terry Potter) narrat...

Re: Fools in April Campout

Hello campers! This weather is great--hope it holds out for our campout. I just wanted to post the reservation number: Res# 2-12146368 . According to our secret undercover operative, they have improved security--may not be a bad idea to write this # down for entry to area G-1. Hope to see you all th...

Re: Fools in April Campout

OK Wal-mart campers--3 of us went up there last weekend and looked around. I made reservations for a group camping area at "Outlet Park" at Pomme De Terre lake. It's at the West end of the dam on hi-254 and its area G-1. Not the exact one I wanted, but this area is open and will handle up ...

Fools in April Campout

Last year around tax time, 11 of us gathered at Pomme De Terre lake for an early campout and it RAINED--so lets do it again in 10. Details on the exact sites are pending further scrutiny, but will probably be around the "damsite" camp area. We just want to make sure we can have a roaring c...

Re: No Ride This Week - 1/3/2010

Guys--Hope the snow melts soon "way up North" in KC. Here are a few pix, if it works, of my New Years Day ride from Gassville, through Mountain View to Conway. 18 degrees to start, then warmed up to 45 or so later. 325 mile round trip--nice ride--then the next day the weather turned to jus...
