This Tuesday 8/31/10 let's return to TIGHTWAD, TIGHTWAD (Clinton), MO for lunch. The link below is the ride report from our last visit. It really looks like we had a good time. This was the first time I met MEL SMITH and after lunch he took me from Tightwad on to Warsaw for an extended ride. You can see the pictures we took of the dam!! Meeting MEL SMITH has been one of the wonderful friendships I have made by "eating" with the ROMEOS!! (and he owes me $11 for a hat plus interest, what a "dead beat" , inside joke)

PS I just called the Tightwad Cafe to make reservations and Carrie, the same waitress, we had last time asked "This wouldn't be the ROMEOS by chance??" Oh Oh we are establishing a reputation. Last time we had 21 let's don't disappoint Carrie!!
I decided not to take a long ride this week. I think it is still a little hot. We will wait till it gets cooler and the leaves start to turn. Please do send me your suggestion and thoughts. Jerry and I are trying the "survey" feature to see how it works.

Guys, Roger took off on his ride to Hutchinson so I will post a quick ride report here. I counted 18 bikes, 2 rode two-up, and a car with 3 or 4 in it. Those were some first time visitors and I hope they come back when the weather is better. They were some friends of Mel's and they said they liked what they saw and would like to ride with us sometime.
It was a rainy start to the day and Don Spangler and I dodged rain showers all the way down there. There were several places where the roads were wet from recent rain but there was no actual rain in sight. A couple of guys said they did get into some rain but not much.
Lunch was good and our waitress, Carrie, was as hard working (and good lookin') as the last time. She single-handedly took all of our orders, got all the drinks out, and then all of the meals and was just flying the whole time. Great job! Good food and the prices were good too.
I also wanted to make a comment for the record about gas prices. Many of you know that Missouri taxes are less than Kansas, so whenever I get a chance to fill up in Missouri I'll take it. Prices are now $2.63 at my local Quick Trip. Don and I got gas in Clinton and paid $2.48 which is more than the .10 diff in taxes. As a note for future reference, that little station about a mile or two east of Clinton was 2 cents cheaper than in town. But what surprised me was that we rode back thru Windsor on highway 2 and saw prices of $2.35! That's almost 30 cents cheaper than Kansas! How does that work??!!
One more note for the record. It was a comfortable ride in the morning in the low 80's, but the ride back got warmer and warmer. By the time we stopped for a drink about halfway home it was in the mid-90s. When we went west to highway 69 and turned north I saw the temps on my little digital thermometer show 99 degrees and then 100.4 for several miles. Later that afternoon I went out with my wife on an local errand and the truck showed 100 as well.
It will be fun to read this in just a few weeks or a month or two when it is in the 40's and we WISHED it was this warm again!
So, anyway, here are a few pics I took of the ride today.
