OCTOBER 5TH, 10:30 AM, LUNCH RIDE, DADDY’S GIRL BAR & GRILL, GOFF, KS

Post by Al Hayes »

How good it feels to be back home after enjoying a wonderful time of riding through the hills and dales where I grew up in the beautiful state of Wisconsin. Yes, it was a bit chilly up in the northland but well worth the riding. I saw a little of Mr. Frost but never below freezing! There was only one rain day, and the rest of the days were cool with lots of sunshine. I find myself now anxiously awaiting to saddle up and ride once again with all my ROMEO friends.

We have never been here before and you may be asking, “Where is Goff, Ks?” When riding back from our Seneca ride, I stopped by this place. There is an old bank converted into a café between Wetmore & Corning, Ks. It’s located on Hwy 9 west of Hwy 75. There’s not a whole lot in Goff, and if you were to blink you might just pass right through this little spot in the road and not even know it. The only thing that might alert you to a town would be a distinct and elegant old building which was once used as a bank and is now converted into an eating place.

During my visit, I not only met with the owner, Deb (daddy’s girl) but her daddy as well. Not bad huh! Now, you may be wondering what this place is all about. They are only open for the evening hours, but Deb has agreed to open at 10:30 am just for the Romeo Riders. I’m posting a menu for everyone to look at and trusting for good weather. “Happy Trails” to you all and hope to see you there.

The weather has just been so beautiful for riding. And I think we’ve found another keeper up in the Northland. I want to make an apology to everyone and Deb (the owner) of “Daddy’s Girl”. I want to correct an error I made in my last post. I told you then that I had met both daddy’s girl & her daddy. When stopping by Goff coming back from Seneca, Ks., I assumed that I met Deb’s daddy, when really it was her landlord. So, thank you, Deb, for looking at our website and for helping me to correct this major blooper on my last post.

For anyone interested, Gary Droege dug up some interesting history about the town of Goff. This town got its start in the year 1880 by the building of the railroad through that territory. It was named for Edward H. Goff, an official of the “Central Branch of the Union Pacific Railroad”. The name of the post office was officially spelled Goff's from 1880 until 1894. Thanks, Gary. (This is Gary - what's even more humorous according to the article, Mr. Goff never set foot in the town! )

I must say what a wonderful day we had joining ourselves together. Deb and her help made us feel right at home and did a fabulous job serving everyone seamlessly. When talking with Deb the next day, she told me how much she enjoyed our group of guys and gals and how much fun we were to host. Without any further ado, let’s get right to “Show & Tell,” witnessing our day together!
