Several of you have been suggesting this place. It looks like the weather will be dry but a little cooler than last week. But not too bad for April. So, what do you say? Let’s give it a whirl and have some breakfast or lunch at good Old 56 Family Restaurant in Ottawa, KS.
I’m somewhat confident this time that most of us have been here before, and if you haven’t been, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. Their food and service have earned them a notable reputation and make this place a nice early spring watering hole to ride to. You still may need your “Long Johns” so dress warm if you’re riding on two wheels. 2 or 4 wheels, I hope to see you all there. “Happy Trails” until then!
A QUICK REMINDER:
Spring Rendezvous rooms at Mather Lodge and State Park will be open to the public after April 9th. If there should be any cancellations you can still get a room. For those of you who are still thinking about attending and haven’t reserved a room, you might want to watch for a cancellation to pick up a room for May 9-11. There are plenty of motel rooms off the mountain in Russellville & Morrilton 15-20 miles away. I’m looking forward to the event and hope to see you then.

Re: APRIL 13TH, 10 AM BREAKFAST OR LUNCH, OLD 56 FAMILY RESTAURANT, OTTAWA, KS
Well as predicted the weather was somewhat cooler, but more frigid than I had anticipated. Thanks to all my heated gear I kept from freezing into an ice cube. All-in-all we had a good turn out and far more than I had expected. It is always reassuring that I'm among those who are of the same mind looking forward to riding, whether cold or hot, rain or shine. Old 56 Highway diner did an excellent job of hosting all of us with a warm welcome. I thought the food was excellent and very delicious. I give Sherry, the diner manager and server a 10.
After everyone had left the diner, I had an interesting experience. When I got on my bike to leave and go home it wouldn't start. I left my lights on the bike, and my battery was as dead to the dead, dead, dead! So, there I was all alone and everyone else had left. Now what do I do? Well, amid the cold and snow flurries and nothing to say about freezing my… well you know! I got off my bike to retrieve my mobile battery jumper from under the cycle seat, and VAWALLAH! What a miracle, the bike started and off I went, making way home safe and sound.
While riding home there were these echoing voices of the past repeatedly saying, “Did you learn anything?” Well, I think you all know the answer that question! I’m prone to say, “I’ll never do that again”! But we all know that’s not true, or I wouldn’t be carrying around a battery jumper everywhere I go. OK, enough chatter. “Happy Trails” to you all and hope to see you at the next roundup.
