LUNCH 11:00 AUG. 28, HILLTOP MARKET, EASTON, KS

Post by swanee »

Our Eastern KS group hasn't been to Hilltop in well over a year (April 2018 actually). Visited there with the KC bunch a couple of months back and it dawned on me we hadn't been there in a long time. Was looking for a day with (hopefully) good weather because it's good riding up that way, a direction we haven't been a whole lot this summer. This is Kansas so anything can change but prospects look fairly good right now for dry weather & decent temps for late August anyway.

Jenny is looking forward to seeing us and said they will have meatloaf with mashed potatoes, brown gravy and cream peas for a lunch special. They do serve breakfast too starting at 6 AM if you need to test a new headlight bulb. Switch to lunch is 11 AM but she said they'll still make you breakfast for lunch if you want it. Now that's service!

Come on out to the little store east of Easton that often gets passed by Romeos on their first visit because from the road it looks more gas station than a restaurant--but it's worth turning around for! Unless you're the first one there just look for the bikes and we'll see ya at:

JUST A HEADS UP: Looks like a possible road closure due to flooding on Hwy. 192 right at Easton (Hilltop Market is actually a couple miles east of there and they are definitely OPEN--I called them to make sure). Riders coming from the west might want to take Hwy. 92 instead of 192, then go north on 207th Street, a paved road you'll get to several miles before you get into Leavenworth. That's what they recommended and it will put you past the closure and near Hilltop Market when you get to Hwy. 192. There are other routes to get there and it looks like a real nice day to ride so pick one we'll see ya there!

Great day and good turnout with 43 at the Hilltop including a couple of newcomers to welcome and hope they'll make ROMEO a habit. Turned out Hwy. 192 was passable this morning after the high water so nobody had to take the long way around unless they just wanted to on a perfect day. Apology re the meat loaf special, which it turns out was the dinner special, and I wasn't even aware the Hilltop served dinner which is good to know. Had breakfast myself but I believe the young lady serving our table said the lunch special was a hot roast beef sandwich which I've had there and it's a good one. Regardless, nobody I heard was complaining about the food. Whether you got breakfast or lunch it was real good as usual and the staff did a great job getting it out. Thanks to all who showed up and hope everybody got some extra riding in or at least all the riding they wanted for today--we don't get 'em much better.
