South Central Lunch Ride: Wednesday, November 15, 11:00 AM

It's been quite a while since we were in Halstead; it's a bit close in for “really good” riding weather, and a bit far for really cold (or snowy) weather. Next Wednesday looks like it's going to be kind of in-between, as far as riding is concerned, so let's get back to D'Angelo's Pizzeria.

D'Angelo's has a pizza and salad buffet at lunchtime; sandwiches, burgers, chicken strips, and pasta can be ordered off the menu. There's plenty of room for our group in the big room on the north side of the restaurant.

Halstead is thirty-six miles from Wichita, which translates to thirty or forty minutes riding time. If it's too cold, or the ride's too short to justify bundling up, arrival by automobile is acceptable. D'Angelo's doesn't open until 11:00, so you early birds may have to kick tires and tell lies out front while you wait.

NOTE: They've been doing work on the 151st Street bridge over the Arkansas River. I believe that it's open at present. If it's closed next Wednesday, you can take Ridge Road north off of K-96. Turn west on 109th Street and ride into Bentley. When you reach 151st on the west side of Bentley, turn north and follow 151st into Halstead.

Probably the best day of the week, so far. We had twenty-seven people, on twenty-four bikes, travel 782 miles (one way) to Halstead. It took a little bit of time for D'Angelo's to catch up with the crowd, but everyone made the ride home on a full stomach.

Charlie will have photos up soon, and I'll post next week's ride in a couple of days.

I went to sleep on the job today, so only a few photos this week. And no jokes.
