Here's one that has been hiding in the deepest darkest recesses of my wallet for a while. I ran across it while I was counting up my vast fortune to determine if I could eat this week. I opened my wallet and there it was. There was no cash for it to hide behind. But fear not. My freezer is full. This looks like a good place and the weather looks like it will cooperate.

After leaving Bayrd's today I looked to the south east and the sky looked a little ominous. I was hoping that any weather would get it out of it's system by tomorrow morning. So far so good. I'm going to trust the weather will hold out for tomorrow. In any case we're set for a departure from the Quality Inn at 9:30. SPOILER ALERT! The sun is threatening to come out as I write this.

As I previously stated I was rifling through my wallet when I came across a folded post it with a name and phone number of a restaurant. I had no idea where this place was or even what it was. Well I donned my Dick Tracy hat and started with what little I had to investigate what I was dealing with. After a few false starts I managed to connect with a listing for Sonny's Tavern & Grill in Liebenthal. Just exactly what is a Leibenthal? Is it in Kansas? Is it even in this hemisphere? I dug around in my road trip planner and found it is actually in Kansas. Not only that! It's within striking distance! Encouraged I went to check the weather forecast and to my glee, it looked pretty good. Further research on the web yielded a Facebook page. I'm on fire now! When I dial up the number on the FB page my hopes are dashed. The number isn't in service. In a last ditch effort I compared the number on the web with the number on the post it. OH! They're different. Calling this number I met with success. We set up for Wednesday and I told her to expect 25 – 30. Finally the day came. We were about to venture forth into the wilds of Kansas. It was a bit chilly when I set out so I left Leo at home to keep Fritz out of trouble. When we all gathered at the Quality Inn our numbers reached 5. We launched with a little trepidation since Big Jim was in the lead. The route was pretty straight forward so I took my usual spot in the middle of the pack. We rolled into Leibenthal to find 7 bikes there. We are usually among the last to arrive, so I figured there would be a rather light turnout. I got the outside shots and a few more straggled in, but still not the crowd I expected. Inside the special was a bowl of chili and a burger. That seemed as good as anything, so I went for it. While I waited for my order another group rolled in and that more than doubled out count. As the day progressed the sky cleared and the temperature came up. I finally got the opportunity to sit down and put on the feed bag. It was NOT a disappointment. The chili was very tasty and the burger was thick filling and done to perfection. After our bellies were full we had to stop next door to Pat's Beef Jerky. They came highly recommended. I bought a sample pack and a pack of snack sticks. I really should stay away of places like that. I could go broke. All in all an extremely satisfying lunch. All too soon the tire kicking was over had it came time to leave. Jerry Jellison and I joined up and followed our bread crumbs back home with a stop in La Crosse to feed our noble steeds. By this time the weather had turned into the perfect riding day. On the way we rolled up on Mark Unruh and company cruising along at a more leisurely pace, so we waved as we passed them and pressed on. I pulled into my garage gathered up my toys and went inside to be accosted by two wild beasts who were very relieved that I came back. The perfect end to a perfect day. :D
