Roger's on the road, so it's my turn to pick your dining pleasure. You all remember summer time in Missouri, so everyone should expect one of three things, rain, hot, or HOT, so put on something cool under your riding apparel and let's head up to Gallatin and have breakfast (served all day) or lunch. Just remember if you're not good or forget to pay your bill, you might end up in the Squirrel Cage Jail :!:

CORNER CAFE 10:30 is a good time (Lunch or Breakfast - all day)

I contacted Trudy who has agreed to give us a personal tour of the jail at 11:30. If anyone has not seen it, you won't be disappointed.

What a beautiful day for a ride! As usual, I have no specific head count but the little young waitress did offer me her apron and said she was ready to leave after getting our group fed and watered. ;) I appreciate your patience as once again we overwhelmed a sleepy county seat restaurant even though we came spread apart, non-the-less while out taking some pictures, I heard one of the locals say "no need in trying to eat here today, there's no place to sit!" Afterward a few of us visited the Squirrel Cage Jail, one of only three left in the country. Trudy, our tour guide locked us in as she explained how the jail was constructed in 1888 and also how it operated. A pretty dismal place to be incarcerated for any length of time and obvious why NO ONE EVER ESCAPED! I know it was getting warm, and for most riding was the second priority after eating, but if you are ever up there again, it's well worth your while to understand how much times have changed. If she's available, Trudy will always give you a great tour, just give her a call, 660-663-7342. She also shared other area histories. Gallatin Mo was the home of Frank James's trail in October 1882, he and Jesse James robbed the Daviess County Savings Association killing Capt. John Sheets December 1869.

I'll add a few pictures from my iPhone for your enjoyment once this is posted. Thanks for another great Romeo day!
