We haven't been here for about 2 years and as I recall it was a good time then. The weather is looking like it should cooperate.

Once again we have saved the world from imminent self destruction! But more importantly we settled on a meeting place for this ride. We will be leaving from the QUALITY INN @ 10:30. Come one, come all to the celebration of the earths continued existence.

It looks like the weatherman has been cutting us some slack lately. Two great weeks in a row. Leo was I rare form and chomping at the bit to go. Even though I hadn't given him any clue as to what day it was. He figured it out on his own. We set off making a stop at the bank to get some money in my account to stiffen up a few checks I had out floating around. We found a few already at the Quality Inn, so I got to the picture thing. We had 10 show up by launch time and I was away from the bike when horns went off and engines fired up. I scrambled to get Leo on board and get fired up. I noticed Big Jim in the lead and started having visions of a visit to Colorado Springs before the day was out. I was pretty far back in the group but I did manage to get on the road. It was another great riding day and I was starting to get into the zone and enjoy the ride. Watching the clock I surmised that we were getting close to Susank. I hesitate to do that since the last time I tried that I wound up getting hell and gone lost. Its like flying. You take off with enough gas to get to your destination, and you know you must be there when you run out of gas. For some reason, the powers that be in the aviation world, seem to take a dim view of that technique of navigation. But I digress. As our phalanx motored down some of Kansas' best back roads I saw the lead come to a stop up ahead. I pulled up beside Jim and he seemed a little unsure about whether he had missed a turn or not. Being in my usual state of oblivion I was of little help. One of the others knew the way so he took the lead. Lo and behold about 5 miles down the road we rolled into Susank. Of course the first few of us blew right past the turn to the restaurant. I did too but I saw the Budweiser sign with the arrow to the left, but too late to make the turn. Parking was casual to say the least. I found a shady spot in front of what looked like an abandoned house so I pulled in the front yard and got Leo settled. I had just taken a few shots when I spotted a lady coming across the street with a certain determination in her step. It seems that the house we parked in front of was hers and she was concerned that the ground might be soft and the bikes might sink in leaving ruts that she didn't want to have to negotiate with the lawn mower. After seeing that such was not the case she said the bikes could stay where they were, but for future reference she would prefer if we didn't park on the lawn. All in all it was a very pleasant exchange. Once I got inside and got all the indoor shots I was able to settle in for a while. I ordered the special for the day. Chicken fried steak. There wasn't enough that survived for Leo so I had them cook up a hamburger for him. He hit the jackpot with that. I swear that dog eats better than I do. Some of the pictures haven't been uploading so If you can't find one you're looking for I apologize. After a little tire kicking and lie swapping I was running out of steam so Leo and I mounted up and headed south to K4. After a quick stop for gas in Hoisington I was back on the road. It wasn't long before I caught up to another of our group and looking it the mirror I saw several more behind me. Suddenly I was surrounded by ROMEOs. Terry pulled past me and took the lead, and we all cruised down K4 until we got to K141 where the others turned to go over Kanopolis Dam. I opted to press on down K4 to Burma Road where I encountered a rather neglectful Fed Ex driver with a very dirty truck. I was just about to pull around him when I realized that he was making a left turn to make a drop off. Unfortunately his tail lights were so dirty that I couldn't see his turn signal or brake lights until it was almost too late. It took some aggressive braking and maneuvering to avoid stamping Moto Guzzi all over the back of his truck. That would have upset me. The part that annoys me is if I did hit him, legally it would be my fault. Dirty and snow covered tail lights has always been one of my pet peeves. The rest of the ride was uneventful and I was glad to get home and keep my recliner from hitting the ceiling.

We had riders from Salina, Minneapolis, McPherson, Russell, Chase, Manhattan, Hutchenson, Lindsborg, and Canton, with the long distance being mostly made up of the Salina crowd at 90 miles.

We were riding Honda, Harley, Yamaha, Suzuki, BMW, Triumph, Victory, Mail Trike, Kawasaki, CanAm, and Moto Guzzi.
