Today turned out to be a study in contrasts. As the grand exalted potentate of the North Central ROMEOs I posted that we were meeting at the Quality Inn at 12:15. This post went up on the site on Monday. Fast forward to today. I couldn't make it to the breakfast world peace summit So I got ready and set out for the Quality Inn arriving at 11:55 right behind Jerry Eliers. It was shaping up to be a great day and I was a little surprised that there was no one else there. We did manage to attract one more, and I started to think that since I missed breakfast someone had usurped my authority and made a departure decision in my absence. By this time we were thinking some were going to leave from the Sleep Inn, so one of us went there to find one or two waiting to go. Still a rather anemic showing for such a perfect day. The route my road trip planner chose was Burma road to Lindsborg to pick up 81 there. If I had been paying attention I would have set the departure from the Sleep Inn and bypassed the dog leg through Lindsborg. So I knew that there were at least 5 leaving from Salina at 2 different points. We left the Quality Inn down Burma road and took the planned route. My disappointment at the turnout was palpable. As we rolled up to Neighbors Cafe I was swamped by a sea of chrome and color. There were bikes everywhere. Therein lies the contrast. I got Leo settled and set out on my photo mission. As I went along I tried to keep count of the bikes but I lost it 4 or 5 times. I finally got a count of 43. This was a bit of a surprise to the restaurant staff who was expecting half of that. When I called them I told them 20-30. Some how the 30 didn't register and they only expected 20. As I finished up the pictures some of the early birds were coming out. They informed me about the staffs shock. I went inside and tried my best to stay out of the way of waitresses scurrying everywhere. They did a superb job of getting everyone fed in a timely manor. Even my order came quicker than expected. The chicken fried steak was recommended but we had cleaned them out of that by the time I got in, so I had the hot roast beef. It was a huge portion which left a good serving for Leo. It didn't take him long to dive into it either. Sometimes I'll save him some and he'll sniff it and look up at me as if to ask “Is that all you've got?” Not this time. He was in nirvana. While Leo enjoyed his lunch I managed to plant my but on a street bench while the tire kicking session continued. Slowly bikes began to disappear until mine was the only one left. My but had started to grow roots into that bench and if I hadn't forced the issue I'd probably still be there. My batteries were getting pretty low and if I didn't get going they would run out before I got home. I got Leo loaded and fired up. It seemed like it took forever to get out of McPherson but I finally got northbound on 81 headed home. Passing over the rail road bridge in Lindsborg I spotted a romeo shirt in the distance and shortly past the freeway I caught up to find Emory and who I think might have been Chuck so I joined up and we rode together until Water Well road where the lead split off the the right and Emory pressed on straight and I peeled off to the left and headed for Centennial and home. I got into the house and there was no Fritz to be found. I called out for him and shortly my little black fur missile shot into the kitchen overjoyed to find that we were not abducted by aliens and taken to Alpha Centauri.

Guys - Sorry I wasn't able to make it this time. A prior truck bearing replacement conflicted. It was good to see all the pictures though of those present. Richard
