It' been about a year since we've been here, but it's always been one of my favorites. The Coachlight Cafe in Longford isn't too long a ride but they have always had good food and service. The weather profits are calling for a high of 72 and a possibility of a thunderstorm. But a lot can change before then.

Wednesday's weather looked a little questionable, but a quick glance at the radar calmed my fears. There was no rain showing anywhere in the state of Kansas. Knowing that I wasn't going to make it all the way to Longford without passing out from hunger I whipped up some eggs for breakfast. Not having all the cobwebs out I stumbled through the kitchen and managed to feed myself without any self inflicted injury. Leo was looking at me with a suspicious eye, like he knew something was up, but wasn't sure just what it was. Keeping my cards close to the vest I continued to ready myself for the ride. Still a little too cool for Leo I left without any fanfare. If I make too big a deal of it he gets separation anxiety. I arrived at the Iron Skillet to find a truck in our usual gathering spot. Figuring that discretion was the better part of valor I opted to forgo a confrontation chose another spot. Being the first one there, and being under cool and cloudy skies I had visions of being alone for this ride. But shortly my fears were put to rest as Bud pulled up and then the others steadily rolled in. At one point I noticed there were as many trikes there as bikes. Eventually the bikes won out by 2. We had a good group leaving from Salina (14 in all) with Terry Powell in the lead. We rolled past Bennington and when it came time turn north we were met with a Road Closed sign. Time to start winging it, so we kept heading east until we got to K15 I think. It seemed like for ever. Being the lemming that I am I wasn't really sure where we were. After a high level staff meeting between the lead riders we turned north and not too far down the road I saw the sign pointing to Longford. 11 miles later we rolled into town from the east to find a few bikes there already. I got the bike parked and set off about the pictures thing. There is where I ran into Delbert who was forced to come on 4 wheels. His bike being in the shop. After getting the shots I headed inside. New batteries in the camera and I continued the photo thing inside. The dining room was almost full by the time I got in and by the time I got all the shooting done I was the last to order. My usual fare at Longford is their fried chicken, but I already had chicken thawing at home for supper. The BBQ ribs looked pretty good tho, so I chose that. I wasn't disappointed. They were boneless which made things a lot less messy. The ribs were excellent and quite filling. Of course being the last in I was the last out and about half of the crowd was gone already. I managed to get on the road in time to catch up with Bud and a few others headed for Salina. They knew the way around the closed road and I was led to more familiar territory. Once I got to old 40 I knew where I was and when the others turned south I tooted farewell and pressed on home. The weather turned out pretty warm and partly cloudy. All in all it was a good day.
Pat Shea was our high miler with 94 coming from McPherson.
The total turnout was 23 bikes and 2 pickem up trucks, and 27 heads.
We had riders from Salina, Minneapolis, Chapman, Cuba, Junction City, Denmark, Culver, McPherson, Lindsborg, and Canton
We were riding Honda, Harley, Yamaha, Suzuki, BMW, Kawasaki. And Moto Guzzi.
Don"t forget. New meeting place on Tuesday morning. Bayrds Cafe on Broadway.
