We're set for Buhler for next Wed. the 13th. So far the weatherman is saying "Partly sunny and 75", so it should be another good ride. I'm not sure yet but I may even try to do it in the dirt again.
The Salina group will be leaving at 10:30 from the Sleep Inn. Be there or Be square.

4/13/16 The weatherman promised us good day and he delivered. Terry, Ken and I met at Terry's house to try to see how much damage I could do In the dirt again. It was still a little too cool to bring Leo and considering last weeks adventure, I thought it best if I were to leave him home. Terry showed me the route we were going to take. He had the route traced out on the map and it gave me flashbacks of some of my daughters preschool art work. Many of these roads were to say the least meandering. It promised to be an interesting ride. We launched off and headed south on Centennial to Water Well Rd. where we parted company with the pavement. So far so good. We were able to cruse along at 40 MPH rather comfortably. Some of the gravel was rather coarse and made the bike a little squirreley, but nothing frightening. We came up on an old military water tower that someone had converted to a house and was living there. Of course I didn't think to take a picture. I guess I hadn't shaken all of the cobwebs yet. The road conditions didn't change very much on this trip so my front wheel wasn't quite so anxious to depart from reality. About two thirds of the way to Buhler Terry felt the back end of his bike start to wallow. A sure sign of an impending flat tire. We stopped and sure enough it was all but flat so Terry loaded I can of fix a flat into it but it seemed the damage was too extensive for that to work. Just a few miles down the road he was back in the same state of affairs. After some deliberation Terry decided to try to nurse the bike to McPherson to find help and Ken and I pressed on to Buhler. About half way to Buhler I saw the Salina group and we just followed them to the restaurant. We arrive to meet about half of the turnout already there. Ken found a parking spot on the street and I pulled into the parking lot. Upon shutting down and dismounting I discovered to my shock and dismay that my trunk was hanging on for dear life. It was dangerously close to falling off the bike. The mounting bolts had rattled loose and allowed the trunk to all but fall off. After a quick inspection I found all the hardware still there. In a panic I retrieved my tools and went about remounting the whole thing. Much to my dismay I found the mount was secured with allen screws and of course I didn't have any allen wrenches with me. To the rescue comes Pad Shea. He had the right size and I was able to re-secure the mount with no self inflicted injury or loss of life. By the time I got the job done Richard had rolled in and stole my chosen parking spot. But no harm no foul. I was able to find another suitable spot in the shade and all was well. I sent the sign up sheet on it's rounds and set about going snap happy with my little red camera. All to told I counted 40 bikes and I think one or two may have arrived after I got in line to place my order. Richard and I were the last ones in when a local couple fell in behind us. In conversation we found out that he was with a group called RODEO Retired Old Doctors Eating Out. I opted for the BBQ ribs which were a very welcome treat for me. When it came time to leave Richard had his ice cream radar up and several of us followed him to Marquette to City Sundries. They are also the folks handling the shirts, so being short on shirts I ordered one. I hope to pick it up on Sunday after the races. Being pretty well lost I figured if Richard could get me to Marquette I could find my way home from there.
We had a tie at 78 miles for long distance between Bruce Shields from Minneapolis, and Richard Schraeder from Great Bend.
All told we had 40 bikes show up. Apparently some of us didn't get the sigh up sheet as there were only 35 names on the list.
We came from Sslina, Hutchenson, Minneapolis, Moundridge, Great Bend, McPherson, Hesston, Lindsborg, Canton, and Arlington.
Bikes that showed up were Harley, Honda Yamaha, Suzuki, Kawasaki, BMW, Cushman, Can Am, Custom Trike, and Guzzi.
