May 7-13 2016 Ride Around Oklahoma

Post by LongJohn »

In the early spring 2012 a small group of motorcyclists from the Kansas City area toured Texas by taking highways that were close to the perimeter. That ride was so much fun that we did it three more times adding more ROMEOs and other riders each year. We are going to do it again and start calling it an annual ride.

For our fifth annual ride around we selected Oklahoma. Dan Gray is our experienced ride leader and coordinator. We generally ride 325-380 miles a day with stops at about every 125 miles.

We have a website at http://www.RideAroundOklahoma.com. The site includes general information about the ride, details for each day of the ride, lodging for the ride, history and links to pictures and write ups of previous rides, and even downloadable route files for your GPS. It also includes links to contact ride leaders and to sign up for our mailing list.

We look forward to you joining us for all or some of the ride.

Glad you have ridden some great routes and had fun doing so. Here is a link some may find of interest for ride planning. http://www.bestbikingroads.com/
If you take some time to explore the various tabs you will find international routes as well as domestic US routes others have ridden, including some GPS coordinates. There are obviously many many routes to ride but the link may be of interest. Enjoy, but in any case, keep riding safely!

Just in case you don't have a place planned in Durant for dinner. Bill and I ate at Taste Island last year on main street. Chinese buffet, delicious. Close to hwy 75. Sits between a McDonalds and a Budget Inn.
Ya'll have a great time and ride safe.

The Ride Around Oklahoma has begun. We have ended our 2nd day in Durant, OK. Roads (Boston Mountains!), weather, mid 70's and sunny. All has been wonderful 16 bikes and 22 folks.

Day 4 2016 Ride Around Oklahoma

We have started west on the south side of the Oklahoma panhandle. Terrain is getting more barren, the cattle fewer and the snakes more plentiful :D Not a lot of variety for pictures, so fewer pictures. We picked up 2 more today. We have 17 bikes and 24 people. A very good group of riders. We have gone over 1300 miles and are over halfway. Here is a link to today's pictures. We are in Dalhart, TX because there are no places to stay in Oklahoma.

Day 7 Ride Around Oklahoma

We finished the Ride Around Oklahoma with a tour of the Pittsburg State College of Technology provided by Dan's brother in law. We were very honored and got a personal tour.

Here are the pictures from today and a few that were on my phone that were out of order.

This was the best organized ride I have ever been on. The webside has the maps which include gas stations, motels and restaurants. You can try all or any part of this ride. Your work is done for you.

Bill Groh has made videos of some of the roads we rode on. He really does a good job of capture what the terrain was like.
