South Central Lunch Ride: Wednesday, December 23, 11:00 AM

Post by roginoz »

Next Wednesday is the day before Christmas Eve, so we'll keep the ride in fairly close for those who have family visiting or other holiday engagements; True Lies, in El Dorado, is a fairly short trip for most of us. The place is big enough to accommodate a large group if we have one, but a light turnout won't hurt them like some of our smaller places.

The weather is looking pretty good for the end of December: partly cloudy, only a twenty percent chance of rain, and nearly ten degrees warmer than last week. Ride or drive, as the weather dictates.

It's a “bar and grill,” but they serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They serve breakfast until 11:00, in case you're one of those guys who always shows up early: biscuits and gravy, omlettes, eggs, french toast, etc. The lunch menu includes all sorts of burgers and sandwiches, chicken fried steak, steaks, pork chops, chicken, and a lot of other entrees. There's a lunch special every day, as well. We've been there twice before, and the food was good both times.

Oil Hill Road intersects with the truck route that runs from the west side of El Dorado north and east to Highway 77. True Lies is south of the bypass, on the west side of the road.

3-2-1 Kawasaki is nearby, if anyone one wants to do some window shopping after lunch. They're nice folks, and pretty tolerant of old guys walking around and kicking tires. Maybe you need a new KLR or a Ural sidecar rig for Christmas?

We had twenty-three people, on twenty-one bikes, in El Dorado today. The bikes traveled 1023 miles, one-way. It was warmer than last week, but the wind seemed a bit stronger. I was on the KLR, and had to keep the throttle pinned part of the time to run seventy to seventy-five on the ride home.

Charlie got some photos of the group, so check back if they're not posted when you read this.

I'll post our last ride of 2015 in a day or two. It looks like a cold one, so we'll stay fairly close to home.

I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not sure.
