South Central Lunch Ride: Wednesday, March 18, 11:00 AM

Post by roginoz »

The Weather Channel has changed the forecast for next Wednesday over the last couple of days. It's gone form sixty-three degrees and a twenty percent chance of rain to sixty degrees and a sixty percent chance of rain. Who knows what we'll end up with for the last ride of the winter. We'll schedule it and hope for the best. Bundle up and bring rain gear if it's cold and damp, or just jump in the car.

We've only been to the Panda Kitchen once, a little under a year ago, but everyone seemed to like the food. It's primarily a Chinese buffet, but they also have a fruit and salad bar; there are plenty of choices even if you're not a fan of Asian food. The price is reasonable, the service is quick (buffet, after all...) and there's plenty of room to accommodate whatever size group shows up (and plenty of paved parking.) They don't open until 11:00 AM, so those of you who arrive early will have to kick tires in the parking lot.

Hesston is thirty-six miles (and minutes,) from Wichita, so driving is a reasonable option if you don't consider it to be good riding weather. The restaurant is just east of I-135, at the main Hesston exit you take to get to Dan's Cycles. Dan's is just a couple of blocks farther south, in case anyone wants to window shop after lunch. Skoops is not too far across town in case you don't overeat at the buffet.

There's cold, and then there's wet, and then there's cold and wet. It wasn't much of a day to ride, but we still had twenty-one people show up in Hesston for lunch today. I believe we only had one bike; Jack rode his DRZ thirty miles from Hutchinson. The weather was bad, but we had a good meal at the Panda Buffet.

Charlie forgot his camera today, but I Mickey got some photos on his cell phone. I'll post them later if I can get them uploaded (downloaded?) onto my computer.

It looks like we may have some better riding weather next week, and we'll be able to get a bit farther afield. I'll keep an eye on the forecast and try to get a ride posted sometime Saturday.

Photos Mickey took last Wednesday, including a rare view of Charlie on the other side of the camera lens:
