I have picked Leavenworth for Tuesday in honor of the all veterans. The Leavenworth Veterans Day Parade is
The oldest Veterans Day observance in the nation and the largest parade west of the Mississippi.

The parade starts at 10:30 downstown. It could run as long as an hour and a half. If you want to see the parade you can eat before or after. Callie was very happy to work with us.

I plan on riding in the parade, so I probably won't see you at the restaurant. I hope you plan on coming, two, three or four wheels. This is a nice parade and there could be a bunch of frozen people. If you can it would be nice to support them. Many veterans have made the supreme sacrifice and this is one way to show their families how much we appreciate their sacrifice.

Something a little different this Veteran's Day. So cold! I drove to Leavenworth, KS for the Veteran's Day Parade, then to the Santa Fe Diner. I saw Roger in the parade and there were several of us Romeos at the Santa Fe Diner. Other than Roger I think we were all in cages.

It was all in good fun and everyone had a good time. I was told Dan, Glenda and some others had left before I arrived. It was a big parade and must have lasted for a couple of hours. I am sure some ate and then went to the parade. Some probably came after the parade.

It was so cold, 28 degrees, I almost "chicken'd" out this morning, but I didn't and I am glad I went. There is just something about a Veteran's Parade that is hard to explain. Everyone was cold, freezing, miserable and wrapped up in blankets, but whether you were on the side watching or on a float everyone was smiling and waving. Today was a HAPPY DAY and everyone that came to Leavenworth was proud. We celebrated our freedom and the small part we all have done to make it possible. Yes, we honored Veterans today, but never forget the wives and children who stayed home and sacrifiiced as much as we did. There were no parades or celebrations when we came home. Yesterday I had occasion to go to the Hy-Vee store on Shawnee Mission Parkway and Pflumm. The parking lot was full and outside one of the entrances was a small school band playing patriotic songs. Inside, the cafeteria area was bulging with at least 300+ Veterans and spouses enjoying free breakfast to the sounds of a middle school chorus singing patriotic songs. Throughout the store were many people, men and women, obviously Veteran in stature judging by their attire. There were also Veteran T-shirts of good quality for $15. Very moving scene to see all these Veterans who saw so much battle along side many buddies who may not have made it home. It's so GREAT to be an American, despite the attitude many in power seem to display, minimizing the good and sacrifice given by American fighting men of the years.
HY-VEE deserves many thanks for what the did for Veterans on 11/11. I know many other businesses did likewise, and they too should be thanked.
