North Central Kansas Weekly Ride 7/20/16

Post by Roadpounder »

Here's a place we haven't been to for a little over a year. Last time we were there was just after I bought my Guzzi Quota. In fact my profile picture was taken there. I really enjoyed the buffet. I'm usually not too big on Chinese food but theirs was really good.

I just checked the weather for Wednesday and it looks like a scorcher. Forecasting a high of 101. At least we aren't going too far.

它的设置。 我们将从质量、西部的高速公路上的克劳福德在11:00

7/20/16 This heat is killing me. I haven't been able to spend more than 15 minutes in the garage at a time. I swear I think I saw the handle bars on my bike starting to glow red. I fear if I spend much time out there, Shorty will stop over to find a melted blob holding a wrench in the middle of the garage floor. I don't seem to be able tolerate the heat like I used to. The dogs don't realize how good they have it in the AC.

Our trip to China Cafe started with the best of intentions. I got Leo mounted up and stopped for gas. Then off to the Quality Inn. Getting Leo set I reached in my pocket for my camera, which was MIA. I quickly handed Leo off to Big Jim and charged home to retrieve the wayward camera. It was right on the kitchen counter on top of the sign in book. Things were not going as smoothly as I thought. I set them out in a very conspicuous place specifically so I wouldn't forget them. Oh Well, the best laid plans of mice and men.

Back at the Inn I still had time to get the pictures I needed. I counted about 15 bikes that left Salina with us. The ride to Ellesworth was easy enough save for the two bridges that were out taking the road down to one lane with a traffic light. Last time I went through there Emory was in the lead and rather than wait for the light he lead us through beautiful downtown Brookville. That was in fact my first trip through that metropolis.

Arriving in Ellesworth, true to form, we were met by about half the crowd there already. The restaurant, having been an gas station at one time, still had the old canopy over the pump island. This proved to be the only shade and parking was, shall we say, “cozy”. It conjured up images in my mind of the male Emperor Penguins warming their eggs while the females are out finding food, all huddled together trying to keep warm. I managed to find a place to squeeze in so Leo would have some shade. I counted 30 bikes before I got inside and settled in for a good meal. Scurrying around snapping all the pictures I could I finally got to settle down and enjoy a great buffet. I'm not a big Chinese food fan, but I do find good fare at these Chinese buffets. By the time we started to trickle out I was pretty well over stuffed and finding it progressively harder to move. Unfortunately Leo got aced out on this trip so I made it up to hm back at home. When we finally got mounted up, we fell in trail of Jim Jefferies and followed him all the way back to Salina where I peeled off and pulled straight into my garage. Bothe Leo and I were both glad to get home to the AC, where I collapsed into my recliner and quickly slipped into a nice comfortable coma.

We had 34 riders from Salina, Hutchenson, Great Bend, Denmark, Kanopolis, Carlton, Enterprise, Abilene, Minneapolis, Chapman, Cuba, Junction City, Denmark, Culver, McPherson, Lindsborg, and Canton. Bryan Spurlock came the longest distance from Junction City 102 miles.

We were riding Honda, Harley, Yamaha, Suzuki, BMW, Kawasaki, Can Am, MV1690, and Moto Guzzi.
