Still dealing with unanswered phones and unavailable managers I was able to get us into a place we haven't been for quite a while. In the interest of expediency they requested burgers and fries for the lot. I hope that's OK for everyone. According to my crystal ball the weather should be great of the ride.
Well, do to lack of shelter on the bike and lack of windshield wipers on the truck, I didn't make it to our weekly world peace summit today, But I was able to find out some classified info on our meeting place for the ride tomorrow. We will be gathering at the Sleep Inn for a departure at high noon. We must keep this information from the government or they will launch the jets leaving chemtrails of dihydrogen monoxide to turn us all into old bikers!

Last night's weather started to call into question the ride for this morning. I was seriously expecting to wake up to yellow bricks and midgets, with a witch under my house. I heard we had gusts up to 62 mph. But morning broke and the wind calmed down. However the rain still fell. I'm thinking “this doesn't look good”. But the rain stopped even though the clouds remained. Slowly the conditions improved. I had time to put my cloths in the drier. That was a good thing since I'm sure I wouldn't have been too well received on the ride in my skives. That's reminiscent of a dream I had. But that's another story. The later it got the more Leo started to put together just what was going on. We had a launch tome of 12:00 and by 11:00 Leo was getting pretty excited. By 11:00 I had Leo loaded up and went to run my errands. Gas up the bike and stop at the bank for a little cash. We were the first to arrive at the Sleep Inn but it didn't take long for Morry Flynn to roll in. He was going to join up with another to leave early so he didn't have to drive so fast. There were an even dozen of us who set out from Salina and we decided on a more scenic route through Roxbury. While we were pondering this route I was asked my opinion of it. Being the lemming that I am I considered myself lucky to remember where we were going, let alone how to get there. I fell in line in the #6 position and quickly settled into the zone enjoying the steady cadence of my engine. Pulling through Roxbury I saw Terry Blogett turn off toward Lindsborg. Not knowing what was on his mind I thought it best to follow the crowd. Upon reaching Canton I spotted John Crandall pull into Casey's Perhaps he forgot to gas up or had some more pressing matter to deal with. I pressed on with the gang. We pulled into Moundridge from the east and didn't take too long find Quincy's. I got Leo settled and went on my photo rounds. By the time I went inside I had counted 30 bikes but considering the total head count I'm sure several more came in after I entered. While going snap happy inside I was pleasantly surprised to see that Leonard Williams was here from GA and was able to join us on the ride. With camera in hand the waitress ambushed me to take my order. I hadn't even found a place to sit yet. Pictures done I found a seat and awaited my meal. When my bacon cheese burger and fries arrived I dove in head first. It was huge and they were very generous with the fries. I tore a piece of my burger off for Leo but when all bellies were full and we were trickling out Leonard discovered that someone left half a burger and I quickly snatched it up for Leo. I paid my respects to the owner and thanked him for his hospitality then headed out to give Leo his prize and do some tire kicking. That burger was big enough that Leo had to work on it for a while. But before long he was sitting back sporting a satisfied smile. Diesel Dave, Bruce Shields Lyle and I decided to head west and then north through McPherson to Salina. About the time we were to turn north I was attacked by a blood sucking, flesh eating monster that found it's way under my shirt. I got Dave to pull over and informed him of my plight. This creature had gotten down my back to my shoulder blade and was feasting on my flesh. Dave found it and was able extricate the offending creature before there was too much blood loss. Determining that hospitalization wasn't necessary we pressed on. Between Assaria and Salina we found ourselves in trail of a pick up truck going down the road at a very leisurely pace. Not being as patient I rolled the throttle on and blasted around him only to find myself behind another although not as slow. I jumped past this one too and checked my mirrors to find that Dave and Bruce didn't follow suit. As I turned onto Water Well Rd. I looked back to see Dave and Bruce pulled over. I figured they were discussing a stop at Spangle's. I pressed on to Centenial and turned to follow it home, only to fine that it's still closed. Turning around I headed to the freeway just in time to see Dave and Bruce turn onto the entrance ramp,so I fell in line. My assumption was found to be correct as I saw them pull into Spangles. Dave was waving me in and I shouted that I was going to drop Leo off first. Back at Spangle's we sat and recapped the days events. All too soon the time came to head home and relax after a great days ride.
We had a total turn out of 42.
We have a 3way tie for long distance this week between Louie Bigler, Duane Zook, and Gary Dohm at 129 miles. They must have taken a scenic route
We had riders from Salina, Minneapolis, Mondridge, Hutchenson, Abilene, Hesston, Junction City, Denmark, Culver, McPherson, Lindsborg, and Canton.
We were riding Honda, Harley, Yamaha, Suzuki, BMW, Kawasaki. And Moto Guzzi.
