Saturday ride to Wilson 2/27/16

Post by Roadpounder »

:D Last night after doing hand to hand combat with Shorty's Goldwing, (new tires). I settled in for an evening of destroying the few remaining brain cells I had left by staring blankly into the proverbial one eyed monster. Yes, that marvelous device that transports us from the drudgery of reality into a world that is a mere hair's breadth from being chemically induced, TELEVISION. One of the world's biggest wastes of time, second only to Facebook. But I digress. I just got settled in and my phone rings jarring me back into reality. It was John Crandall calling to inform me of a ride that was forming to go to Wilson in the morning. Judging by the weather it sounded like a no brainer. I'm going riding tomorrow. Then reality hit again. I'd already committed to casting some evil spirits out of Shorty's bike. So staying as noncommittal as possible I said I'd be there if I could. Shorty was in no hurry for his bike since he had to work today so I decided to go. Morning came and I got some of the drudgery out of the way like gassing the bike and stopping at the bank for some cash, and considering that it was getting pretty warm I concluded that it was warm enough for Leo to come along. I stopped back home to get Leo decked out in his finest spring riding attire. His official ROMEO T shirt. I loaded him on the bike and got to our launch point of Spangles to find about six bikes already there and more rolling in all the time. All told we had about 15 bikes for the trip to Wilson. We launched and fell into a great ride until the wind started to kick up. Not too badly, but enough to dull the edge of a perfect day. And of course we had to encounter the inevitable sign of spring. A detour. I was OK til then. Back into lemming mode and just follow the crowd. We found our way back to 140 and the rest of the trip was great. Puling into Wilson there were some already there. After I got Leo settled and a little tire kicking we filed in. Big Jim mentioned that he wished he'd called ahead, considering the turnout. But the restaurant staff took us in stride. They had a rather limited German buffet, so I opted for the hot beef sandwich. Apart from the rather lengthy wait, it was quite tasty and filling. Leo even got a piece of sausage which he scarfed down with abandon. Belly full and lethargic we left for home. Some backtracking the way we came, while others chose a more scenic route. I was a little anxious to get home, since this was the first time Fritz was home alone without Leo. I half expected to find a Dachshund sitting amid a pile of couch stuffing with a look on his face as if to say, "I'm just as surprised as you! I was just sitting here and the damned thing just exploded!" But all turned out OK. He just went ballistic when we got home barking "Thank GOD! You're NOT DEAD!!
