Lunch 11 AM June 4, Vassar, Ks.

Post by schoolmaster »

Since May 28 was Bucky's last lunch to set up, and no one has stepped up to take over, it looks like we might not have anything set up for next week, Wednesday, June 4. So I have set up a lunch ride at 11:00 AM. Breakfast eaters are welcome to show up earlier and 10:30 seems to be a pretty good "happy medium" meeting time. This week lets meet at:

Green Acres Restaurant
4961 E Hwy 268
Vassar, Kansas
785-453-2166

(Now for the Editorial Part:)
I have hesitated to take on the Coordinator role because I think it should be someone with more history with the group than I have. I also may be out of town for part of July and most of August as well. Plus, as many of you know, my wife and I are faithful Jayhawk fans and follow both football and basketball on the road occasionally during both the fall and winter. I'm also still doing some educational consulting work that occasionally requires that I am out of town during the middle of the week. I think that whoever coordinates should be able to be pretty consistent in performing the tasks associated with setting these rides up.

I will be willing to assist or share with someone or even take the lead responsibility if someone would agree to take it when I'm out of town on a regular basis. Please think about it this week and perhaps we can meet after lunch and see if we can come up with a solution so we don't lose this opportunity to ride.

Please don't make me look bad, so show up next Wednesday. As I recall, Wednesday is the fried chicken buffet and I also remember the size of those pies lined up as you walk in the door. Hope to see at least a couple of you at Green Acres!

Mick

I sent Mick an email that I would help out with backup and I think MICK will make a GREAT new EK coordinator. He's got plenty of ROMEO experience--he's not exactly one of these "twice a year" guys :!: He's also got the ideal people skills. I mean, who better to lead a bunch of us old farts in our second childhood than the guy who led a whole herd of them in their first

Let's all thank Mick for stepping up to the plate :!:

:D :D I am so very glad Mick has stepped up and picked a place for us hungry old ROMOES to eat lunch. I was getting scared there for awhile. I also am very glad Swanee has agreed to help him out. I think they will make a very good pair, backing each other up. So thank you MICK and SWANEE. YEA, We have a place to ride.

WELCOME MICK AND SWANEE. I'm sure you both will do a great job. Looking forward to your choices on great places to eat and of course all the bs. Bill and I are headed out in a few days for Texas and will miss a few of the lunches, so you all ride safe and have a great time. Linda

Kansas City Coordinator Roger Shores called Breck's Green Acres Restaurant one of the Eastern Kansas ROMEO "foundation" places. He was right on target in that prediction. When I pulled up about 10:20 I saw only one motorcycle parked in front and thought we might have a pretty light turnout, but when I walked around on the west side (shady, duh), it looked like the beginnings of a crowd. And they just kept rolling in, and by the time the smoke cleared, 60 ROMEO's had eaten either breakfast or lunch!I would like to thank everyone who showed up today. I think we gave a nice boost to Green Acres' daily receipts. When I thanked the owner for taking such good care of us, even though we exceeded the 35 attendance estimate, she expressed her appreciation for our business. They did an exceptional job, especially considering that the woman I worked with to set up today's ride, entered it on the wrong line in their reservation book and they were actually expecting us next Wednesday!! When the early birds started arriving this morning, they figured it out and called in some extra help on the spot. Nice save. Again, another great day to be a ROMEO!

The Wednesday special on the buffet was fried chicken. The ROMEO price was $6.79 so if you can find a better deal than that for all you can eat, then let me know and we'll go there next week!

Mick from Lawrence pulled in on his new-to-him yellow trike. If you like yellow, he has a Gold Wing that is also yellow, for sale. Pulling up right beside him was the widely famous Kansas City coordinator Roger. Thanks for coming to join us again Roger. Roger, as you know, is the shirt and hat specialist that works really hard to promote our ROMEO image at all the places we attend.

When Mike pulled in he looked like the Pied Piper. I believe 12 riders followed him into the parking lot. We appreciate the faithful attendance of many of the Kansas City group every week. They also make a lot of us Eastern Kansas guys feel welcome at their rides when we reciprocate.

Breakfast eaters. They didn't get out early enough and our group quickly spilled out into the main dining room as well.

Looks like Larry #1 had this bunch lined up for inspection. BTW, they all passed, which shows you just how low our standards are.

You can tell it's summer because Hoser's sporting his straw hat! He's sharing some words of wisdom with Bucky, who really looks relaxed now that he's retired.
