10/8 WAVERLY APPLE BBQ, WAVERLY MO

Post by rcrgl1800 »

Well, Roger and Melissa are traveling again and Gary and Mary are tending Mary's younger brother in Florida. I have agreed to arrange the Tuesday rides for the Kansas City area for the next three weeks.

Week #1
Looks like we have a good weather forecast of sunny skies and temps of 76. This should be a good day to take a ride in the the country and thanks to Dan D. from Lone Jack who found this place recently and thought it would be a good Romeo ride. We will be going to Waverly Apple Bar B Q for breakfast or lunch or both if you are hungry enough. I talked with Jill one of the owners and she said she will have the breakfast cook there at 9:00 and those wanting breakfast can order from the menu. Lunch is served beginning at 11:00. The lunch special Tuesday is tacos. They are also known for their large tenderloins that are hand breaded and prepared there. With this being a Bar B Q restaurant the Bar B Q should also be good. Jill said they are excited about the Romeos coming and will be ready for us.

Waverly is known as the Apple Capital of Missouri with several apple orchards in the area. Since we should be in the middle of the apple harvest a visit to an apple orchard might be in order. One apple orchard located 1 1/2 miles east of Waverly on Hwy 65 is Peters Market. This should be an interesting stop for those having time to explore.

See you there Tuesday.

Proud to be a Romeo.
Randy

What a great day! The signs said it was the Apple Capitol of Missouri. The food and service were outstanding, and after a chilly start, it warmed into a perfect day. Randy and I split duties and I took pictures around the Waverly Apple BBQ and at Peter's Market on 65 East. At Peters Market I talked the guys into some 'special' pictures. I've never been kicked out of an apple market, and it didn't happen today either. Marion (Dale) and I turned those Harleys into apple haulers after seeing the apple bins and prices.

What a day for a ride. Thanks Dan D. for finding this place and sharing it with us. It doesn't get any better than this with sunny skies, temps in mid 70s, good food, good friends what more could a person ask for. I would gestimate the crowd today at 45 to 50 and that is all it would be as there had been several Romeos that were there, fed and gone by the time I arrived at 10:45. I got pictures of several at the restaurant and Bob K. and a few others were taking pictures today and I hope they will post theirs. Several made the trip to Peters Market for apples, cider and I even saw one of ours with a jug of sorghum. As I rode through the country side apples, corn, beans and hay being picked, shelled and bailed. We really are living in the breadbasket of the country. Following are a few of the pictures taken today.

See you next week.
