This week’s pick is in Osawatomie. It is famously known as “John Brown” country and stomping grounds around the time of civil war days. He was an advocate of abolishing slavery and a “Free-Stater.” He was known to be quite a crusty old rebel rouser with a mind of his own. With all that said, most of our riders have enjoyed this cafe over the years. We have visited it many times and they are always glad to have us back. They open early and serve breakfast until 11:00 then it’s lunch time. Unfortunately, this could be our last visit as it’s up for sale.

Around noon time an arranged tour is planned to go to “Prothe’s Pecans” for all who are interested. There will be an announcement made at the restaurant as to our forming a procession from the parking lot to the farm. Leland & Salina tell me that there will be deserts served for all who make this tour.

An observation for those of you who don’t like riding on dusty gravel roads … there is a half mile of gravel leading to the farm. For those of you who are not riding in the procession from the restaurant, here is the satellite address: Prothe’s Pecans, 33850 Victory Rd., Paola, Ks. 66071. Weather is looking ideal! “Happy Trails” to you all and we’ll be looking for you there.

Katrina, our server, deserves a medal for her fabulous Job of getting all 50-60 Romeos served flawlessly without a hitch!!


This couldn’t have been a more eventful day. The weather was beautiful for such a memorable day. Leland & Slina have asked me to share their overwhelming thanks for all of us coming out and showing our generous support and interest in their “Family Pecan Farm” and operations. In return, I’m confident that all of us would want to thank them (if many of us haven’t already) for the opportunity and invitation they extended to us all.

The event was well attended to both the “Whistle Stop Cafe” & the “Pecan Farm Tour”. Again, I lost count at the cafe after #45. It was guesstimated 50-60 if all is told. Steve & Dixie (the owners) were overwhelmed with our Romeo attendance. Katrina did a fabulous job serving our huge Romeo crowd (almost single handedly).
