North Central Kansas Weekly Ride 8/2/23

Post by Roadpounder »

Well, the plan was for Marquette for this week, but this one has been in the back of my mind and it's not too far away. Looking at the forecast, we're due to be in triple digits all week. Frankly I'm a little tired of having roast butt every time I get on the bike. I got us scheduled a little earlier for this one. I certainly hope this visit goes better than our last one. For me anyway. Last time they called me two hours before we were to arrive to inform me of a power outage. Too late to reschedule, I decided to proceed as planned and keep an eye open for an alternate on the way. We arrived to find the power back on and everyone acting as though nothing was amiss. Good food, good service, and good fellowship. It worked out great. UNTIL,,, On the trip home things went askew. I made it back as far as Lindsborg when Suzi said NO MORE! DEAD BATTERY! Long story short, Shorty came to the rescue and I spent the next day bringing Suzi back from the brink. Go back to our last visit for the full story.

WOO HOO! I got my 2000 Guzzi Quota fired up. I finally bit the bullet and coughed up the cash for a new battery at Atwoods. I went a little light and it's only a 9 amp hour battery, but it cranks the bike over easily. If I get a year out of it I'm OK with that. I'm not running any extra electrics or anything. I did have to disassemble the blinker switch to clean and lube it. It was getting a little sticky. 23 year old bike. Throw some fresh oil and a filter in her and she's good for the road. I might get my bucket list trip in yet. I still have to make the mounts for a couple extra gas cans though. I don't want to cut my gas supply as close as I did last time. I was on the Burr Trail in Utah and by the time I got back to civilization I had a quart left in the tank. That's when I learned that when going through the desert DON'T PASS GAS! You never know where the next gas is.

We're on for a morning ride for tomorrow. Hopefully I can shake the cobwebs out for an 8:45 launch from the Rodeway Inn.

If you're meeting at the launch site, don't wait for me. Terry Powell, Ken Boss and I are going to "do it in the dirt".
