TRADITIONAL POLAR BEAR RIDE: “NEW YEAR’S DAY” For all ROMEOS across all forums old or young. We don’t want to count anyone out … everyone is welcome. May I suggest that this is not a ride for the faint-hearted, but the requirements are quite simple. If you can “put one foot in front of the other with little or no effort” and you are able to mount your trusty stead, come join us. As a last resort there is always the 4-wheeler (better known as your car).

The long-range weather is forecasting a high in the 50’s. (Not bad for a January day!) If you don’t already have a place to be, come one, come all, and join us in celebrating the 1st day of the year and our first ROMEO RIDE for 2023.

HERE’S THE SCOOP: Many of you are familiar with the Green Acres Family Restaurant, Vassar, KS. It is one of our favorites. It is the one and only cafe located near the Pomona Dam on Ks. Hwy 268. The cafe has graciously reserved their back room just for us. This is a Breakfast or lunch ride, so come early or late as you wish, it won’t matter the time. Just come and enjoy the day! What a wonderful day to Ride. Can you believe on the 1st day of January, New Year’s Day, it reached up and over 60 degrees for a high! When I arrived at “Green Acres” in time for lunch, some of the early birds informed me that the café was packed full of local customers. Tables were quite scarce for our early riders to be seated. While some of the locals were leaving our group managed to finally find a table to sit and order their breakfast. When our lunch crowd arrived, it was still pretty packed, and those of us riders just coming in were able to find a seat due to our early birds starting to leave. It was somewhat comical and reminded me of playing musical chairs!

I got to thinking of all the times we have been to this restaurant. It has always been busy but never this packed. I was asking myself what the difference was compared to all the other times. And the answer was that we had never been here on a Sunday. Anyway, all went well for everyone, and we were served without a hitch. Of course, this was mainly accomplished because of the fabulous servers and the excellent help the restaurant provided.

There was never really an accurate count of how many Romeos attended this day. There definitely were two waves of us and it seemed to be almost equally divided, some on bikes and others in cars. All-in-all I think everyone enjoyed gathering, visiting, and celebrating the start of another “NEW YEAR”!!! I didn’t get photos of some of the early birds but did catch some leaving as I arrived.
