North Central Kansas Weekly Ride 9/29/22

Post by Roadpounder »

I've been waiting to do this one for a while. They usually can't handle us on Wednesday because they have a regular group that day. THURSDAY is looking pretty good on the weather front. So we're set for next THURSDAY .

I've been scrambling to get some bikes done and I got behind in posting the launch time. I had a few calls to remind me, so here it is. We launch at 9:30 from the Iron Skillet.

TIME....................11:00

Here it is..............Hunter Cafe

It day looked pretty good when I got up. I got all the usual menial tasks done and Fritz and I mounted up for the Iron Skillet. The day further improved when I discovered that the eternal construction on north 9th street, just south of the freeway was COMPLETE!! :D The bridge was open and there was no maze of construction cones to navigate through. This might turn out to be a pretty good day. Suzi was singing happily beneath me, the roads were smooth and the weather couldn't have been better. We motored on thoroughly enjoying the day. Turning onto the final leg to Hunter my fears were allayed upon making the turn onto the final stretch. IT'S ACTUALLY PAVED!! :D My road trip planner is pretty sketchy on that front. Several miles down that road is when I encountered the fly in the ointment. Suzi hiccoughed, then backfired, but kept running. OK?!? What was that all about. Passing it off as a minor glitch I pressed on. A mile or two later she did it again. :( The concern meter is starting to rise. Third time is a charm. This time she fell flat on her face and I coasted to a full stop. Everything was stone dead! No horn, no starter, no lights. Immediately thoughts of who is going to haul me back to Salina to get my truck and haul her home. Everyone behind me had stopped to see what had happened. I turned the ignition off and back on. She came back to life! :D I rode the few miles to Hunter and put the incident behind me while I went about my duties and filled my gut. I knew I'd need gas to get home so with that in the back of my mind I enjoyed my chicken. Figuring that I could make Lincoln I fell in tow with several others. Things were looking pretty good until about 10 miles west of Lincoln. I guess the headwind got me because I had to hit reserve to make it. A bunch of us pulled into the gas station on the corner, and some of the less patient of us backtracked to the Cenex station down the road. Gassed up I went to the other station to meet with the others, but by then they had already left. By now I'm way behind the crowd and on my own. About the time I came 'to Tescott I had caught up to the gang and followed them south and true to the predictions State street was freshly graveled. We pressed on south to Brookville and took K140 to Salina. I pulled into the garage and collapsed into my recliner calling it a day. Apart from the little inconvenience it was a great day. I haven't had any problem since. So until it becomes more pronounced I'll keep on keeping on.
IT'S COMING!

I got home OK. So far I haven't had any more trouble with it. I still suspect the ignition switch.
