North Central Kansas Weekly Ride 10/5/16

Post by Roadpounder »

I'm back and pretty well recuperated from my ride. It was a good reminder that I'm not 25 any more. It pretty well beat me to a pulp. My niece came over while I was gone and committed a neatness in my house, cleaning the kitchen and other major rooms. She also did a huge amount of yard work. Shorty also was stricken and shampooed my carpets, and left me with a warning that I am no longer allowed to wear my shoes in the living room. I owe them a huge debt of gratitude. Anyway I just got off the phone with the T-Bird center and we're set up with them for 1:00 on Wednesday. They seemed anxious to have us back. :D

It's set. We'll be leaving from the Quality Inn just past the freeway on Crawford at 11:30.

Here's the time......................................1:00 pm

Here's the place................................T-Bird Center LLC

I woke up to what looked to be shaping up to be a very good day. Clear skies and warm. I checked the weather for the day and all looked good. It was still early so I played my cards close to the vest, so as not to tip my hand to Leo and have him leaving paw prints on the ceiling. When it came time to leave I let the cat out of the bag. Fritz is starting to put things together and started his plaintive yelping. He knows when we're going riding. We left early planning a stop at the bank for some cash. All was well until I got to the bank and saw their entire drive was conspicuous by it's absence, leaving me no access to the ATM. Now I'm scrambling to get to the next closest branch on Santa Fe. After ensuring I would be able to eat today, I arrived at the Quality Inn with about 10 minutes to spare. Feverishly snapping pictures my camera suddenly collapsed from exhaustion. I reached into my watch pocket for my spare batteries only to find they seemed to have evaporated. In a panic I decided to go to the truck stop to buy some. They had an 8 pack for $7.59. I didn't need 8 batteries and didn't want to deal with 6 loose batteries floating around. The lady at the counter pointed me toward a 4 pack. So I did the fiscally responsible thing and bought 4 batteries for $7.09. Now you know why I'm not in charge of the U. S. economy. All that being done I was able to get on the road with the group and headed for Bushton. The ride was a good time on a perfect day for riding. The only fly in the ointment was the two bridges that have been under construction since the Eisenhower administration. We took the scenic route over Kanopolis dam and then K4 to Bushton. Arriving in Bushton we were met by about half of the group there already. I thought it looked like a pretty good turnout. Leo managed to find a German Shepherd that need to be warned to keep his distance and I'm sure the Shepherd had similar feelings. I got the pictures and counted the bikes. I came up with 41 and a few came in after I went inside. We pretty much packed the place with a few locals joining in. They all seemed enjoy our presence. After I got the rest of the shots I managed to snag a seat with Diesel Dave, Leon and Morrey, where we had an interesting discussion solving many of the worlds greatest mysteries. ;) Next week, Roswell, New Mexico. Were the aliens legal or not? Richard advised me the the manager requested that I stick around since he wanted to talk to me. I steeled myself to deny everything. After I settled up I tracked him down and we had a pleasant conversation where he thanked us for coming and invited us back anytime. They were even kind enough to fry up a burger for Leo. By the time I got back out to Leo he and the other dog had gotten used to each others presence and he was eagerly awaiting his culinary treasure. All bellies full it was time to head home. Harold Chase joined up with me and we opted for taking K4 to Lindsborg and Burma road back to Salina, In effort to avoid the infernal construction on 140. Rolling up to my driveway i punched my garage door remote and timed it just right for the door to open far enough to roll right into the garage. A perfect end to a perfect day.

I was just going over some previous posts and was reminded that Gibbo had a mishap that broke his collar bone. I see by the sign in sheet that he was able to join us on this ride. Glad to see you're back Gibbo. :D

We had riders from Salina, Minneapolis, Carlton, Enterprise, Russell, Lincoln, Hutchenson, Hunter, Hays, Junction City, Denmark, Culver, McPherson, Lindsborg, and Canton. Our high miler was Bill Latter (I hope the spelling is right) who came 121 miles to join us.

We were riding Honda, Harley, Yamaha, Suzuki, BMW, Victory, CanAm, Kawasaki. And Moto Guzzi.
