CANNONBALL "THE RACE OF THE CENTURY"

Post by shoresr »

I just saw where someone posted on in Romeo General Discussion an announcement about the Cannonball Motorcycle Race and it is in our area. I went to the website and found that is truly and interesting event. It is called the Race of the Century because all the bikes have to be 100 years old and they are racing from the east coast to the west coast. ISAUZEK POSTED PART OF THEIR SCHEDULE:

CANNONBALL RUNS STOPS IN OUR AREA Thurs

Thursday September 15
4 30 University Plaza Hotel Springfield ,Mo.

Friday September 16
11 45 Commercial Bank Parking lot Parsons Ks
4 10 Twisted Oz Motorcycle Museum Augusta Ks
6 00 Wichita Marriot

Saturday September 17
6 00 Boot Hill / front street
September 18
Dodge City Various Locations

This schedule has lots of possibilities for us to get a glimpse of these 100 year old bikes. If you are going to the Fall Rendezvous think about meeting them Thursday night in Springfield where they are spending the night. Or Duffy might schedule a Southeast Kansas Ride in Parsons or nearby on Friday September 16th. Or the how about checking them out at the Marriot in Wichita on Friday Evening!!

I think this is really exciting and something the Romeos would really like to see. Melissa and I are going from the Fall Rendezvous and spending Thursday night in Springfield. We hope to see them arrive, inspect and see them leave in the morning!!

In 2016 we are planning something very special. A true Century Race. In order to qualify for this next event riders will be required to have a 100 year old motorcycle. Only 1916 and earlier machines will be allowed to run in the 2016 Cannonball. As in the years past, a very limited number of entrants will be allowed. Only 100 riders will be chosen to participate in this historic endeavor.

Melissa and I really had fun at the Cannonball Motorcycle Race. I hope you got to see it somewhere across Kansas. Below is a link to the pictures and VIDEOs we took. Hopefully in the videos you can hear the sound of the 100 year old bikes. The videos have a very small arrow in the corners that makes them play. There are several videos.

If you go to the national museum in Animosa, IA or The Barber museum near Birmingham, AL you will see many of these bike on display. The craftmanship of these bike is unbelievable given that the parts were all hand made/machined. And to think the bikes still run is a testament to the innovation and workmanship that has now been taken over by automation. Amazing bikes from an amazing era for sure.
