Evel Knievel Museum, Topeka, KS TUES 6/6/17

Post by Bob K. »

Well, we have a good one planned for Tuesday June 6th! Different from our usual ride to eat, we are going to Historic Harley Davidson and Evel Knievel Museum in Topeka, Ks, with lunch at Henry's BBQ Grill in the dealership. We ate there Thursday June 1st, the food is very good and not expensive, you order at the counter and have a seat, Jeff and Mona took great care of us. There are actually two museums, a free one in the dealership basement that was very interesting and the Evel Knievel Museum in a side building.

There is seating for around 65 in Henry's BBQ Grill, with some outside seating, we were told there is a group of 32 ladies coming in at 11:00am on Tues, so, Jeff and Mona have asked us to divide into groups some going to the museum if the cafe is full rather than waiting in line for a table, we were told it will take one to two hours to go through the museum.
We are getting a group discount at the museum, $3.00 off the entrance fee of $20.00, just let them know you are a Romeo. They are expecting between 50,000 and 100,000 to visit the Evel Knievel Museum yearly, so we are getting in early. Tuesday looks perfect for a ride to Kansas, while several Romeos are riding around Iowa.

Henry's BBQ Grill is open 11:00am till 2:00pm
Evel Knievel Museum is open 10:00am to 6:00pm

What a great day to get out for a ride! I know this was a different type of event for us, but even with all that was going on, most of us had a blast.
The group of lady riders that went through the line ahead of us at Henry's BBQ Grill were on a schedule, riding from Charlotte, NC to Idaho and back. These ladies are riding cross country to raise money to buy and train service dogs for veterans. A very nice bunch and they were interested in the Romeos.
The Evel Knievel Museum, if you went through it, was very interesting and modern, with interactive screens and a real motorcycle featuring a digital jump experience.
Several left to eat in other establishments because of the wait, but the folks at Henry's BBQ Grill ran themselves ragged to serve all of us, with two groups it was a lot for any eatery.
Also, if you hadn't heard, our man in black, Berg (Loud) was recently in the hospital with some heart issues, so we were glad to see him riding and able to join us.
