Earlene and Lonnie live in Chillicothe, MO not too far from Hamilton, and they are our hosts for this ride. You guessed it. If it is good I get the credit, if it is bad, blame Lonnie.
Missour Star Quilts.jpg
I am not a quilter I have heard of Missouri Star Quilts and it is the reason we are going to Hamiliton. This quilting company has saved a small town and it is nationally known.
Little ol' Hamilton, Missouri has become a quilter's paradise—some might even call it the "Disneyland of quilting." A dozen beautiful shops line the main street, enticing restaurants have come to town, and there's always something new to find!
We currently have 11 quilt shops right here on main street for you to peruse. Each has its own unique theme. It's pretty awesome!
Spending very little on advertising in the first few years, our company relied entirely on its creativity to grow. We started a YouTube channel with my mom, Jenny (aka "Momma Doan"), as our instructor, teaching quilting techniques and ideas to beginner and advanced quilters alike. Mom, who had a background in theatre and in being the natural center of attention in any room, had always wanted to be a star. It wasn't long before Missouri Star became the biggest quilting YouTube channel and mom became a quilting celebrity.
J C Penny Museum.jpg
Penney’s first store, named the Golden Rule, opened in 1902 in Kemmerer, Wyo., but his birthplace is where his memory is kept alive.

Penney incorporated a small chain of stores in 1913 and renamed them the J.C. Penney Co. He opened his 500th store in 1924 in Hamilton, where his museum was dedicated in 1976. The farm home where he grew up was relocated to Hamilton in 1988.

The company currently brands itself as JCPenney. A company spokesman said it operates 1,000 stores now.

I have ordered good weather for riding and lots of things to do. Mi Mexican doesn't open till 11, but if you arrive early check out the J C Penny Museum or some of the quilting stores. Make sure you tell your friends that have a interest in quilting. I bet they have heard about Missouri Star.
Doug says he is riding and Mayme is driving. That works, let's all meet in Hamilton :D ;)

I couldn't figure out if Leland and Slina were texting each other or if they were trying to figure out how many pecans they were going to have to sell to pay for all the quilting fabric Slina bought today!!

Doug, we had so many ROMEOs in Hamilton that Leland and Slina couldn't talk to each other so they had to text

Thanks to everyone for coming today. I must admit I was a little worried. It was a long ride and when I left KC it was really looking like rain. The day was everything I hoped it would be, good weather, good riding, some went to the J C Penny Library/Museum and some got into quilting. I must admit I tried to learn what was so special about what they are doing for quilting in Hamilton, but I didn't figure it out.

Lonnie, our host, picked a good ride for us and I will share the credit with him. We laugh....he ordered chicken soup and this is what it looked like, more like chili than chicken soup. However, he said it was very good.

It was a special day. We had somewhere around 60. We have two wheels, three wheels, and four wheels. We had daughters, sons, girl friends, wives and just friends. Some came for quilts, some went to JC Penny and all ate. It was a good day, and thanks to Lonnie for making it all happen and thanks to you for coming. It was close for who came the furthest. I have Leland and Slina from Paola, KS at 112 and Randy and Carol from Butler at 120 :o Whichever you pick, that is a long way to ride for lunch :D  :?
